We stayed 3 nights in the Palace. We rated the hotel 2.5 stars, rather ordinary - nothing like its namesake. The breakfast buffet was OK (liked the variety of fruits & breads). Our room was clean and hot water in the bath. For drinking, there's a electric jug that you can use to boil water. They also supply 2 free bottles of mineral water every day. We tried their new restaurant on the 14 floor - their delicious Vietnamese set meals give good value for money.
Located near to 4 & 5-star hotels, the Palace hotel vicinity has many shops selling art and tourist souvenirs. You can also shop in the Bin Tanh market (walk abt 15 mins). The hotel has a travel desk but for cheap reliable tours (e.g., less than USD10 for a 1-day Mekong tour), we tried Sinh Cafe in De Tham Street (backpacking area).
