“Fantastic location”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

We arrived Christmas eve after a seven hour taxi ride from the south.[ Avoid travelling in Ho Chi Minh City on Christmas eve. It's bedlam]. The city centre is decorated beautifully, very festive. There are lots of large Catholic Churches on the outskirts of the city. This surprised me a little. Just my ignorance no doubt.
On arrival at the Duxton we were offered an upgrade to an Executive Suite which was $40 per room per night. If your budget can stretch to that I would highly recommend it purely for the inclusive afternoon tea. Just like an English afternoon tea. A stand full of savouries, cakes and chocolates. A pot of tea to die for, as good as I have tasted. We priced the tea up on Amazon it costs an unbelievable £7.50 for 25 bags. There is wine, beer and spirits [all branded] which are part of the upgrade package.
The upgraded rooms themselves were a bit of a let down. Much smaller than the grand sounding 'Executive Suite' suggests. Makes me wonder about the size of the standard room, but all things considered we were glad we upgraded. The breakfast was lovely, buffet style, help yourself .The food was fresh with lots of choice, coffee and tea refills aplenty.
Location wise the Duxton would be hard to beat. It's central for most of the tourist attractions. Very good restaurants, bars, markets and shopping centres etc. It is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination. Designer goods such as Hugo Boss, Lacoste, Burberry etc have an additional charge called a luxury tax, this makes them far more expensive than in Britian.
So to summarise, Ho Chi Minh City is a vibrant, modern city, a must visit. The people are lovely, friendly with a ready smile. The Duxton is quite expensive as you would expect from a four star hotel centrally situated in a major city.
If Ho Chi Minh City and Viet Nam in general are not already on your bucket list I would add them immediately.

Room Tip: As I have mentioned, if your budget allows, upgrade to the Executive Suite with all the benefits the...

The Duxton is a lovely hotel, has everything you need comfortable bed, tea coffee in the room with the option of mini bar at a cost. The breakfast options were large and covered a good mix of western and local food.
The little pool and sun deck are lovely however after 2pm ish the sun is hidden around the corner but the morning sun was good enough. Location is perfect and is known by all major tour operators.
We had no issues in our stay staff were helpful and always willing to help. The only thing I would say about the hotel seemed not to have any character but that apart good stay.

Room Tip: The higher up you go better the view

We booked a tour of South Vietnam with Vietnam Alive which was excellent and we had three separate stays at the Duxton Hotel. The rooms were all very comfortable, clean and well equipped. The location was ideal as it was close to the river if you wanted a dinner cruise and it was well placed for visiting the markets, museums and shops.

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice including fruit, pastries, cheese, cooked meats, omelette and cooked breakfasts if you wished ie bacon, tomatoes, pancakes, etc.

We didn't dine in the hotel at night as there are loads of restaurants nearby without the need for a taxi although if you go further afield taxis are cheap.

I had only one gripe (and listening to other people at breakfast it was a common issue) is that the pillows are very hard. We had 3 rooms during our trip and only one out of three was ok. Whilst aged we faced the main road, we slept well.

The hotel pool is small but very pleasant after a busy day sightseeing and there is also a small gym.

This is a great hotel and we would certainty stay there again.

Safe, secure and excellently situated for what the tourist wants to see in HCMC (Saigon). Check-in was ponderous by an elderly gentleman for whom a keyboard and screen held fears and mystery: he would have been happier with a twentieth-century Registration Card.
Good concierge and portering service but lifts are slow and under-capacity, particularly when there is a conference / convention in the second-floor meeting facility.
Bedroom and bathroom of good size and design. Strange plumbing noise emanated from the bathroom hand-basin. Only one luggage-rack. Safe positioned for contortionists rather than for Mr Average. Highly complex panel to control everything electrical: had it mastered by day of departure! Beautifully quiet: a good sleeping-hotel.
Dinner in the restaurant represents eating to live, rather than living to eat. No atmosphere: few diners - cause or effect?
There is a swimming pool but without additional plus-points.
Overall, a perfectly satisfactory four-star hotel in a prime location. It has good, quiet bedrooms and courteous staff. A few unnecessary irritations mean that Duxton is not pushing the 4 / 5 star boundary.

Room Tip: Request a bedroom at the side of the hotel: avoiding the front which looks over the main street.

This was the first hotel we stayed in during our travels and it is located in a nice area of Saigon within walking distance to many of the sights. The room was a good size, well equipped with free wifi. Picking up on one of the reviews here I didn't notice the hotel looking tired, although one of the three elevators was being serviced / was out of operation the two days we were there.

Breakfast was of a good standard with a lot of choice of both western and eastern fare.

Overall it was a clean, well located hotel that although not "exciting" was absolutely fine for our first few days in Vietnam

We stayed in this hotel towards the end of our 3 week Vietnam holidays. The location is great and sithin walking distance of most if the attractions. Frontdesk staff and roomservice very helpful and courteous. Reasonable prices and a good breakfast.
We stayed her for a total of 4 nights. The first night was a bit difficult for my teenage daughter as she is tall, the add-on bed in the room too short with a very hard mattress. A friendly chat to the frontdesk and within 10 minutes amore suitable bed was arranged. Great !

Roomtip: higher level and not streetside as the road is noisy at day and night.

I stayed at the hotel on business due to its proximity to the Bitexco Tower - a short 2 minute walk. The check in process took around 15 minutes, rooms were not pre allocated and my request for a non-smoking room was ignored. It should be noted that the hotel itself allows smoking in the bar and a number of the rooms.
The check out process was also problematic with their credit card machine not working (it also did not work at check in) and the persistent attempt to charge my bill in USD rather than VND.
The hotel needs a general update and the only reason to stay would be for the location.
