“Ho Chi Minh City…The Sheraton……absolute luxury!”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

We stayed at the Ho Chi Minh City Sheraton for 5 days in June 2013……it is a vast establishment…with two buildings……there’s a number of restaurants….the Sunday night after we arrived there were huge buffets on the 2nd and 3 floor restaurants…one was oriental, the other western and both buffets were well patronized. As we had been travelling we settled for liquid refreshment and snacks on the upper floor executive lounge….with a sweeping view of the rapidly growing Ho Chi Minh city below.
Our room was enormous complete with a spacious bathroom, and again we had an enchanting vista of the city. The television service was excellent with entertainment and news channels which included Al Jazeera, the BBC and CNN. The wi-fi connection was very fast and included with our room rate.
On the first floor we were told there is a small casino (we didn’t go there for risk of temptation)……there’s a neat swimming pool and work out gym….and on the top floor of one of the two buildings a night club with a resident international pop group…..and nearby also on the top floor is a bar with an outdoor area providing an uncluttered view of Ho Chi Minh City.
We were honoured to meet up with a good friend Scott Hodgetts the GM of the Sheraton Ho Chi Minh City who gave us some splendid info about this beautiful city.
And within walking distance of the Sheraton (even for my Daddy) there is there are some magnificent French colonial buildings……I spotted some Art Deco structures….and the most beautiful is the Saigon Opera House…in that area a scene from the most recent “The Quiet American” was filmed. And a little further along one of the main boulevards, is the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Central Post Office which has an association in design with Gustav Eiffel.
The streets of the city are kept clean, the buildings beautifully restored, but there are lots of motorbikes so do not walk too fast when crossing the road……
From the Sheraton we took taxi rides also to the War Remnants Museum and the Ho Chi Minh City Zoo.
The Sheraton Ho Chi Minh City was so enjoyable that we did not want to leave!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the city.....

I make no apologies for being a hard marker...but this REALLY is a beautiful Hotel.

From start to finish, perfect in every way. We had pre-arranged an early check in due to early international flight and opted for a suite in the Tower wing. On arrival we were escorted to the club lounge where we were given a warm welcome and quick check in.

We were then taken to our beautiful room on the 24th floor with amazing city views. Our room was sheer luxury...and although I think it will date in time...flawlessly maintained. Everything we needed was either at our fingertips or a quick call away to our 24 hour butler. The room was that spacious it felt like an apartment.

After resting during the day, we headed down to the club lounge for a relaxing afternoon tea. Then feeling refreshed, used the well equipped Gym and pool. It was here we encountered our only small issue at the hotel. One of the Gym staff wasn't the friendliest person (hey it happens) and I did make mention of this on my checkout card as a suggestion. I have already received contact from the General Manager addressing the issue... I didn't think it would be such an issue.

On return to our room, a lovely complimentary chilled bottle of champagne from the manager awaited us (honeymooners) and our room had been tidied up again.

We have been to Ho Chi Minh quite a few times and love the local flavours. Usually I am not one to spend too much time in club lounges, but the Sheratons lounge is possible the best I have been in. Not only is there a 'happy hour' between 5 - 8 pm everyday (which apart from the usual drinks includes good quality wines, spirits and cocktails) the canapés are beautiful (changes daily). But it doesn't stop there...there is also a chef on duty who prepares around 5 different dishes every night (cooked fresh to order). I hate to say it...but we actually preferred to eat here than go out (even though we did).

One night one of the dishes was lamb cutlets. Now being Australian and this our National Dish, I tried them the night they were on the menu. STUNNING is an understatement. I went back for a 2nd helping they were that good (I still crave them). As I said, ordinarily we do not take Hotel Club upgrades...but for a very reasonable price...worth every dollar.

As for the usual stuff in other reviews...Location is excellent, Staff...Excellent. Night Club on 23rd floor and View...Excellent.

The breakfast in the main downstairs area was very busy and some of the food a little cold. from there on we ate at the lounge and again...excellent.

The real test of a true 5 star hotel came on checkout.

We checked out at 11.00 for a 1.00pm flight to Nha Trang. On arrival at the Airport...Vietnam airlines had cancelled the flight (very very common with them...another story). We were given the option of waiting in the lounge for 7 hours or a taxi voucher back to the hotel.

We opted to go back to the hotel...we figured the lobby at the hotel was far more comfy than the airport. On arrival back at the hotel, when I explained our problem - without asking we were offered luggage minding, full use of the club lounge and gym, sauna...NO CHARGE.

This type of service really does separate this GREAT hotel from good ones.

THANKYOU SHERATON and Staff.

Room Tip: Pay the extra..get at least a club room in the Tower

I have been in the Sheraton Saigon last week in a business trip. The hotel is in Saigon downtown and the position is close to the most turistic area of the city. The room was excellent, clean and conforatble. The bathroom was quite large. I used the gym and the Spa area, and they were very well equipped. The breakfast was very good with a big choice of food. The international restaurant at the top floor was excellent but very expensive, just like the famous bar at the floor 23. Much better and less expensive the vietnamese restaurant a the floor 1. In general a very good experience.

It's a true gem.
Pros.........
1) Location(walking distance from Diamond Mall & Notre Dame Church)
2) Breakfast (at least 350+ types of food across the World)
3) Pool- an amazing one
4) Customized Room (Spacious- Toilets are too big)
5) Cleanliness is 9.5 out of 10
6) Bar at the 23rd Floor gives a view of royal Saigon at night
7) War Museum is also close by
8) The reception and the lobby was grand
Cons...........
1) Be careful with your luggage while checking out
Because the bell boys will keep it at the back of reception and silently go off
I lost my bag and it created chaos at the airport.
They sent the bag back but charged for that (which was at their fault)

Room Tip: choose a room on the tower at a height,so, that you could see Mekong River.

I stayed at the Sheraton Saigon while visiting VietNam in 2012.
The hotel is located in a business district convenient to many quality stores, markets, restaurants.
I actually stayed in the newer tower section of the hotel and the room was breathtakingly beautiful and well appointed with luxuries.
The staff was very professional, helpful and courteous.
Restaurants in the hotel excellent breakfast buffet and great choices for dinner and lunch.

My family took a a short vacation in downtown HCMC and we stayed here in June. We stayed in the towers (a separate section) of the Sheraton. The service was amazing. The staff were ALL very helpful. The room was amazing. The pool was clean and my daughter loved it. The location cannot be beat. The markets and shopping are all close by all within walking distance. A lot of dining options are around the hotel. It you want to stay in you can eat the buffet which is expensive for Vietnam standards but average for US buffet prices. But the meal is worth the price with a wide array of foods and all tasting pretty delicious. I highly recommend staying here. We will definitely be visiting again!

My wife and I have just spent 3 nights in Saigon our first time to Vietnam.
We could not have picked a better location to stay in this beautiful city, District 1 is the place to be.
While it has all of the high-end brands available on the door step, it also has The Rex Hotel worth a visit for the 5 0'clock follies , great views from the roof garden.
The area is full of European architecture dating back to the French .
The hotel was perfectly located to access these sights and more without having to take a taxi ride.
We stayed in an executive room on the 21st floor, not a huge room in size but very comfortable. We would recommend breakfast in the Saigon cafe on floor 1 rather than the executive club , the cafe has a much greater choice.
23rd floor wine bar is very relaxing and good views over the city.
We also booked a hotel car to take us to our next stay 4 hours drive to Mui Ne , which was a little more expensive but very comfy able and safe in a BMW 7 series.
In summing up a very good Hotel in a great location and value for money.

We will return , many thanks to the management and staff of The Sheraton
