Myself and three friends have just spent a week in HCMC staying at the Rex.... we all loved it. The rooms are spacious clean and the bed was better than ours at home. We upgraded to the suites with balcony's and it was a good move. I loved just sitting out there in the morning watching the city come alive and the comings and goings of the locals.

The pool area's were excellent and although I didn't use the gym plenty of people were, the only criticism I had was maybe the staff could've been a bit quicker on service, but that is a minor quip. You must have a Vietnamese Iced coffee....

We found the hotel to be within walking distance of everything we wanted to do whilst in HCMC and it seemed to be quite safe at night .

The roof top bar is also a great place to spend some time although the drinks are definitely on the pricier side compared to other hotels in the area ..but every cocktail we had was very good...

If or more so when we return to HCMC we will be booking into the Rex

Room Tip: if you can get an balcony room but avoid the fourth floor as there are renovations taking place at t...

The Rex Hotel is bang in the centre of HCMC. It's clean, quiet and very relaxed. The staff are very efficient, the standard of the rooms is good and the pool areas are excellent. The gym also is great.
The food (lunch) wasn't great, but everything else about it was really lovely. Excellent value given the location.

I have finally come around to completing a review of The Rex Hotel after staying at there a few times over the last year, once for business and the second time with my parents visiting from overseas. First, it is a historical location/building and you can feel the history in the building. It is right smack in the middle of downtown Ho Chi Minh city. They have done a great job renovating the building over the years with many new suites (West Wing). Rooms are spacious and with all amenities and beautiful hardwood floors. Try and get a room overlooking the square so you can see all the controlled "chaos" on the busy streets at night. Check in was quick and efficient. Staff always greet you with a smile. The staff during both my stays were superb, especially during the stay with my parents. They really went the extra step to make sure my parents enjoyed Ho Chi Minh. We planned a few day trips through the hotel. Very well organized. We did a half day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels. It takes some time to drive there on some bumpy roads, but I think it is worth the experience. Then we did a full day (private) tour to the Mekong Delta. This was our favorite. Although areas up the delta can be a very crowded/touristy it is still a must. Then we did the night Bonsai cruise......for this I would say keep your money and go eat somewhere else. Food is ok at best and it can be crowded on the boat, with lots of kids (perhaps a good family event)...a bit of a gimmick. Music was the highlight on the boat....very good band. Although we had fun together, I would say it is not worth the value.

We ate breakfast at the hotel Hao Mai Restaurant each morning. Standard hotel breakfast buffet. Good Vietnamese Coffee! Each night we would have a drink at the Rooftop Garden Bar looking over the square below. Great start to the night. Staff are attentive.

They also have a pool, but we are not pool people. But it looked nice...clean with staff around the Pool serving guest.

All in all, a great say both times. No major issues....a very enjoyable and relaxing stay. I highly recommend the Rex for it's history, location, staff/service and comfortable rooms.

Room Tip: A room facing the front square!!

What an incredible hotel choice for HCMC. Beautifully remodeled hotel with a strong history. My room was spacious and very comfortable. The bed had multiple types of pillows to choose from and the bedding and mattress were better than what I have at home (not the very common steel-hard Asian mattress). Fresh fruit and water every day. The breakfast buffet is fantastic and diverse (sit on the outdoor patio if its not too hot). We also had a few other meals in the hotel and the quality was always good. We found the staff to be exceptionally helpful as well. On top of all of that, the price was very affordable. I can't imagine staying anywhere else after this experience.

We stayed there for 3 nights and had a newly refurbished room in the west wing! Good size and had everything you could need!

The hotel is a piece of Saigon history however may have lost some of it charm.

Good and extensive breakfast, however they are not kidding when service stops at 10am, they literally give you a 20 min warning and everything is cleared by that time.

If you are planning on visiting the rooftop bar at night, it is nice and a good change from the hustle and bustle if the streets below. HOWEVER it is extremely expensive

We stayed for four nights in early February, 2014. We had a great stay and more or less everything during our stay was perfect. The staff was really friendly and spoke good English. The room was very big and there was a proper bed for our son, not a small extra bed. The room was clean and well equipped. The breakfast buffet was outstanding! The Rex has a fantastic rooftop bar overlooking central HCMC which is well worth a visit even if you are not staying at the hotel. The hotel building has some historical interest as it was the place where the American press briefings, the so called "Five o'clock follies," took place during the American war in Vietnam. It is also a quite nice building decorated with faux-colonial artefacts.
