“Great location but a bit tired”
Reviewed February 25, 2010

Despite it's claims as a heritage hotel the Majestic doesn't feel like one. We stayed here because we liked the Majestic in Melaka (which is much better). It's all a bit dull and drab, but clean and with helpful staff.

Best of all was the location in District 1. Perfect for watching the fireworks during Tet and easy to walk to most of the major attractions. Breakfast was OK but not good enough to make us want to try the food for lunch or dinner.

I stayed for 2 nights on my own before my husband joined me and we spent another 3 nights in Saigon. Our room overlooked the pool, so probably much quieter than river view rooms, as there is a very busy dual lane road between the hotel and the river. The pool is small for a large hotel and in a courtyard 'well' on 1st floor so poor for sunbathing.
The location is excellent - an easy walk to most of the main attractions. The staff were most helpful and attentive, and breakfast on the rooftop very good for choice and quality.
The best tip I was given was to walk slowly across the road and then the motorbikes and cars will (probably!) avoid you - they are very skilful. Zebra crossings do not give pedestrians the right of way, so be watchful of obvious speeders.
It was the Tet holiday and the streets were amazing with lights and decorations.
I also had a 5-course lunch in the hotel for an amazing US$5 and recommend the Lemon Grass restaurant a few streets away for good Vietnamese food.

Nice building, great views from 5th and 8th floor balcony bars. Other than that a pretty poor experience. Food v average. Some nice staff, some grumpy. Decoration in common areas tacky tacky tacky. Rooms ok for size in our experience, but decor dull. Electrics v dodgy. Staff managed to empty the bar by turning the music volume so loud it could be heard two floors below. We booked to stay for 7 nights but left after two. Couldn't wait to leave the piped Saturday Nite Fever music in the lobby and the plastic clip framed ads for the slot machines in the empty casino down the corridor.

We spent 2 nights here over New Year and booked the presidential suite as the rate ended up being about the same as two interconnecting rooms would have been. We had a great stay staff were helpful and breakfast was memorable

Great location, fantastic breakfast with a view, good pool. Some in the staff are great while some should not work in the service sector. The hotel is quite tacky and lacks taste and class. Absolutely over priced.

Our room was elegantly decorated, beautiful and very clean. This old hotel has been re-done and has many amenities: a roof area where a great buffet breakfast is served, a roof bar overlooking the river, where they serve food and have great live music. The lobby is very elegant, and service was very good.
