“Beautiful Hotel, great experience”
Reviewed July 3, 2014

On our last night in Saigon we decided to stay at one of the original hotels in Saigon (built around 1924). Good location within working distance to restaurants, shops, night market.

On check-in, Fleur upgraded our room to a room over looking the river with a balcony (Level 3, in the old section). The size of the room was grand, plenty of suitcase room, bed/pilows amazing, small table/chair setting, fresh fruit awaiting - lovely layout. Air-conditioning worked well, bathroom great size and well appointed.

The pool area was well kept, spotless infact. The pool staff so friendly and made you feel very very welcome. Served amazing Mojito's. The pool area only has sun between 10am - 2pm which is enough and it was nice to get into a refreshing cold pool (as most others during out trip had been like a warm bath).

Breakfast selection was good and plentiful but not amazing (maybe I had expected too much). Staff very friendly.

Rooftop Bar - we went up on the Friday night around 10pm and the atmosphere was lovely with a view of the river and a band playing. Service was great and I liked the fact that we only had casual clothes on and was still welcomed by the staff.

Overall it was definitely worth the experience to stay in the beautiful Hotel, staff service from check-in to check-out was of high quality.

This is my last evening in the grand majestic. After a initial stuff up with my room I finally got pur balcony with the river view. If you like old style elegance of the French Colonial era? this is for you.
Its the same vein as the FCC Phnom Pen and the Life Heritage in Hoi An, except this is more luxurious. The only down side is the buffet breakfast turn left as you walk in and get a fresh cooked omelette or other treats.. to the right is luke warm bacon and potatoes. Seriously if that ruins your holiday? STAY AT HOME! the pool area is fantastic and overall its a short walk to all the the great places in District 1

Room Tip: Choose the old wing with a River View you get a nice little balcony all to your self.

Very nice staff who go out of their way to treat you well. Good location for touristy stuff in District 1. The swimming pool is tiny ;) Nice big beds and rooms - can be a bit noisy at night. Nice view of river at night.

Amazing Art Deco interior, fabulous room, excellent service, (we arrived at 10am after travelling from Uk & they got us checked in straight away). The small pool was delightful to come back to after a day sightseeing. Then the roof bars!, well they were a treat, cocktails and good food in both, with incredible views down the Saigon river made us very loath to go elsewhere. A brilliant start to our stay in Vietnam.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the new extension side where work goes on all night.

My wife and I recently had four lovely nights at the Majestic hotel saigon.
The hotel was as described lovely with colonial charm.
The minor issues were a slight sewerage smell in the bathroom.
Noisy air conditioner in the bed room and noise what seemed to be all day and night from the building site next door witch I have since found out that it is a new wing of the majestic hotel.
Please majestic stop the building at a decent hour.

We had an unpleasant experience on check out that left us with a distinctly bad feeling about this hotel. As we were checking out, the woman at the front desk told us that we had not left the umbrella in the room. We told her that we had, and exactly where we had left it, and then she said that that was our umbrella and not the one belonging to the Majestic. I am fairly sure, although I cannot be absolutely certain, that the umbrella we left is the same one that was in our room when we arrived. We left the hotel twice with the umbrella, and both times we had to check it and pick it up after leaving. Once was a restaurant three blocks away (and suggested by the hotel), and once was at the Museum of Fine Arts. Neither place was busy when we were there, and I had no reason to think that the umbrella I got back was different from the one I brought. Nevertheless, the woman at desk insisted that we pay the full cost of the umbrella ($30). We were very pleased to leave the Majestic behind and get into a taxi, but very disappointed that the very last memory of our trip to Vietnam was an unpleasant one.
Apart from the incident with the umbrella, the hotel was pretty ordinary with some good points and some bad points. The room was large, but felt slightly run down. There were mosquitoes in the room when we checked in, and we called housekeeping which immediately sent someone to spray the room. A few minutes later we pulled the bathroom door closed because of a distinct smell of sewer gas in the bathroom and the door locked, so we had to call again and housekeeping again sent someone quickly to unlock the door us.
We later found a cockroach in the bathroom—Vietnam is a hot tropical country, so the occasional cockroach in a bathroom is perhaps to be expected, but the Majestic was the only place we saw one.
The otherwise ordinary breakfast buffet was distinguished by the most mediocre bread we encountered in Vietnam. As a former French colony, Vietnam generally has exceptional baguettes and croissants, but this was not the case at the Majestic. The fruits, however, were very good, especially the passionfruit.
Overall, there seem to be better options in HCMC, so I would recommend that travelers choose somewhere else.

A lovely old hotel, maintained to an excellent standard. I stayed here for two nights in Saigon and loved it. The staff were friendly and helpful, the restaurant for breakfast was outstanding (much better than other hotels in Vietnam I stayed at) - great views of the river while you dine.

The pool area was small but lovely, we used it multiple times in the heat of the day to cool off and take a break from the busy streets.

The Breeze Bar was fun - a bit cheesy, but again a lovely view of the river with live music when we went.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window! We had a room that had no natural light which was the only thing I cou...
