“Step back in time in Saigon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

We spent 3 nights in the first week of January. Its a well maintained hotel for its age. I do think it was a little expensive for what we got. I think the Sheraton was comparable to our room rate which is a swish new hotel not far from this pub. The breakfast was really good and the view is a great way to start the day.

The sperate rooftop restaurant and bar were both great. We had breakfast each morning in the restaurant and the bar has a fantastic view of the river which is a great place to have a few drinks in the afternoon and watch the 8 billboards across the water glare back at you which is a bit bizarre. The drinks prices were mid-high range but it seems to be a bit of a trend at the larger hotels in town.

Dear SydAstroboy,
Thank you for taking your time to share your holiday experience on TripAdvisor. Despite the hotel rate issue, it is our pleasure to hear that you did enjoy your stay and enjoy the time at our rooftop bar. We are proud to be one of very few places in Hochiminh City have this great view to Saigon river. Concerning hotel room rate, for next visit you can check on our hotel website for some special promotions for good rates with many benefits offered.
Again, thank you for being with us during your time in Hochiminh City.

I stayed several nights including the New Year's Eve celebrations. Although not absolutely central, the position next to the Saigon river makes up for the 5 minutes walk up Dong Khoi Street to the real hub of HCMC. There are building works near the hotel which are a bit of a nuisance and the hotel itself is shortly planning to build a huge new wing.

I stayed in a colonial deluxe room with a river view. Although the river view was appreciated during the New Year firework display as the balcony gave a prime view, you can't really see the river when lying on the bed due to a pillar and the extra doors to the balcony. For my next visit I won't be paying the extra for the river view as if you go early enough to breakfast you can get a prime table overlooking the river anyway.

The breakfast was excellent and I can recommend both the fish and prawn porridges. The pastries were good as were the braised vegetables and noodles. In fact after a substantial breakfast and taking advantage of the daily fruit bowl in the room, I only ate out a couple of times during my entire stay.

I didn't have time to use the small pool or fitness centre. I loved the hotel though and will shortly be returning.

Room Tip: If you don't have a room with a river view just go early to breakfast and nab one of the best ta...

We spent a too short, one night visit over the Christmas holidays and loved it. Very well appointed hotel in a prime location with a cool rooftop bar. One of the best breakfast buffets ever. Very comfortable beds.

Saigon Activities- Cu Chi tunnels, War Remnants Museum, Ben Thien Market
We did the Cu Chi tunnels which was educational and fun for the shooting gallery. We also visited the War Remnants Museum which shows in full glory the carnage of the American/Vietnam War. My teenagers were a bit disturbed but I thought it was an important educational stop for all of us. The Ben Thien market was also a fun visit, the day market was better as the night market was small.

Thank you very much to Mr John LInn and the management for talking such good care of my wife and I . We were upgraded to a full suite which was very kind of the hotel to do. Amazing room . The hotel is very centrally located with a perfect pitch for the Saigon River and close to most tourist sites. Staff very friendly - nothing too much trouble . Would agree with other reviews concerning drinks prices been high - otherwise lovely hotel with great staff . Love the rooftop terrace for breakfast.

My husband and i stayed here on 24th and 25th of December as a special Christmas treat.

We were in one of the mid range rooms and it was just gorgeous. Very simply decorated in an old colonial style- totally charming. Much preferred it to the modern rooms in some of the other five star hotels we have stayed in. Huge bed, powerful shower and plenty of space.

The interior of the hotel is beautiful and rich with history. Not as flashy as many modern hotels but far more endearing in my opinion.

Breakfast was served on the rooftop terrace- what a setting and a great start to the day.

Pretty pool area and decent fitness room.

Overall I really enjoyed our stay. If you're looking for modern and flashy then don't bother. If you prefer old and charming but with clear style go for the Majestic.

The beds and pillows were the best we encounted in Vietnam. Once we worked out the shower it worked well. The pool was also great. Staff were friendly. We were on the third floor in a colonial suite and had little view, except of neighbouring buildings.
the welcome fruit platter was very good. But I think it was overpriced for our family of four. It was by far our most expensive accommodation in Vietnam. It was a special place to stay and quiet, but next time I would choose somewhere less expensive. Breakfast was great, except for the smoker who choose to stand next to my teenage daughter and smoke while she was eating. Not the hotels fault, and the smoking around others eating was one thing I struggled with throughout Vietnam. the only fault I found with the hotel was the VERY slow elevator. we resorted to using the stairs and ended up in staff area. Other that that I couldnt find fault with the hotel, it was just very expensive for us.

Room Tip: Choose a higher up room for a view

We stayed here for one night between Christmas and new year. Arriving sweaty with back-packs, we were looked down upon whilst checking in much to our amusement. We were then shown to our room with a terrible view of the back of the hotel. Although the interior of the hotel is beautiful, stylish and part of a forgotten era our bathroom could have done with modernising. The shower was a pathetic over the bath affair with very little water pressure. The rooftop is nice but nothing spectacular about he drinks or food although the view is worth a visit. We had dinner in the empty Vietnamese restaurant on the ground floor as we were to tired to hunt around for a restaurant. The food was excellent but service slow and confused and almost no atmosphere. Breakfast was varied but more Vietnamese options would have been better. Overall, I would rather have spent my £120 elsewhere in Saigon, it just wasn't worth the money, I would suggest coming for a drink to see this historic hotel rather than overspending to stay here. Would not return.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a river or pool view!

Dear Crazylass,
Thank you for taking the time to share your holiday experience on Tripadvisor. It is great to hear that you liked the interior and the food at Cyclo Restaurant of our hotel, however it is sad to hear that the stay did not meet your expectations.
About the room, we have rooms with views like pool, city or river, also we have standard rooms which meet all of your expect for a perfect stay but without a view.
Your feedback is wonderful and very detailed, we have certainly noted your positive and negative points so that we can have appropriate actions to make the service better.
