We arrived in Saigon in the evening and were happy there was still a room available for us in "the Grand". We decided to take a room on the first floor, overlooking the very atmospheric swimmingpool in the courtyard of the hotel.
The receptionists were extremely friendly to us, helping with any question. The room was spacious, very clean and the beds of high quality. We think this hotel is good value for money.
The next day we wanted to make a citytour but the regular tourrs had already left.
The kind and professional tourdesk arranged an excellent guide just for the two of us, and, last but not least, the hotelmanager lent us his glossy black Toyota with blinded windows and his driver!! What a personal service!! We went to the Mekongdelta by public transport; the tourdesk reserved tickets for a super quick boat that runs between Saigon and Can Tho without charging anything. (4 hours, 200.000Dong), a good option for those who don't want to go on an organised tour.

We would highly recommend this hotel to everyone who would like to visit Saigon and who appreciates professionality and a warm welcome.

Anne Louise- The Netherlands.

We stayed at the Grand for three non-successive nights and had double rooms in the new wing on all occasions. They were all great and pretty uniform. Cleanliness cannot be faulted, and the interior decoration is very nice (apart maybe from some of the paintings, but I suppose that really is a matter of personal taste...). Comfortable beds and impeccable linen.

The breakfast was also good with a wide choice of breads, fruit, cheese and cold meats, a large cooked section (both western and eastern) and the usual choice of (only black Lipton's) tea or coffee. The location is very central and close to many bars, restaurants and sights. Despite that all our rooms were very quiet.

The pool is a bit on the small side but perfectly adequate if it's not busy and the water was a lovely temperature. There is a nice sitting area next to the pool and even a few machines to work out.

The beauty treatment was a bit disappointing because they don't seem to have a proper location for it and you sit in a kind of waiting room in semi-darkness with lots of other massage chairs around and the TV turned up high. Not my idea of relaxation.

The other reason why the hotel gets only 4 out of 5 points are the bathrooms: they have a real problem with the plumbing. The higher the room (we had them on the 4th, 7th and 9th floors) the longer it takes to get hot water and the pressure is pretty bad on all floors. So showers take almost forever, and we never even tried running a bath. The decoration of the bath is also quite drab, so there is definite room for improvement there.

Having said all that, I would happily stay at the Grand again. Price-value ratio is excellent and the location perfect!

We stayed here in the old wing for 5 nights in February and liked it very much. The location is great, quiet and safe at night. Excellent A/C, lots of TV channels. Apparently our room had it's own hot water heater, it was hard to get a tub full of hot water, but no problem with 2 back to back showers in the AM. Breakfast was very good.

A service person came by each evening about 6:30 to replenish towels if needed, do turn down, leave two chocolates and the joke of the day. Yep, a rolled piece of paper tied with a ribbon, with a joke. The jokes were so corn ball they were funny.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. Our 3rd floor, old wing room, was large with a large bath room with separate tub and shower. We didn't see any of the new wing rooms, but the upper level ones may have a river view, no view from our room.

Our tour operator in Cambodia, Journeys Within, arranged for an 11:00 PM check out for us as our flight left at 11:55 PM. I don't know if, or how much, we paid for this, but it was a life saver.

My girlfriends and I recently stayed at the Grand and we loved it. Our room was in the old part of the hotel, which was 1920's charming, parquet floors, high ceilings and huge windows. Dont stay in the new high rise addition, it lacks the atmosphere.

The hotel is close to everything, you can just walk out and be amoungst it all. Always taxis around too.

The pool was nice, we could have been staying in a small hotel in the south of France.

Not a five star hotel but really good for Vietnam and filled with charm.

Stayed here for a long weekend, first time in Vietnam, and really enjoyed it. We were in the old wing and it was exactly what I wanted - it really felt like it had seen a lot of history. Hardwood floors, high ceilings, shuttered windows opening on to the street... very elegant. If you are looking for 21st century convenience and chain-hotel blandness then don't stay here; if you're looking for a bit of character, then do.

Mundane stuff: I found the staff helpful, the breakfast buffet was decent, and the air conditioning suitably powerful.

I have to agree with one of the previous reviews saying this is a two star at four star prices. For what you get its WAY over priced. We were in Saigon the week of Christmas and paid something like $172 a night, way overpriced for what we got. We stayed in the older wing, and the room showed every bit of its age. It was a small, worn space that let in every sound from the street. If I was paying $80 a night I would have been satisfied, but at these prices I felt I was getting ripped off. The breakfast was also atrocious, unless you got the Vietnamese Pho. I mean we are talking soggy buffet french toast and grease soaked bacon; it was terrible. Would not recommend at all. You can do better.

As we were in Ho Chi Minh city for the last 2 nights of our holiday, I decided to lash out and book an expensive hotel. What a disappointment this was! It was certainly the worst hotel we experienced in Vietnam. the bathroom was filthy with visible dirt in the sink. The rolls at breakfast were so hard I should have thrown them at the surly front desk staff, they could have caused some damage. The carpets were old and stained and the hotel itself was amongst the more expensive hotels we stayed in. Although the location is excellent, I would strongly advise travellers to give this one a miss!
