i would rate this hotel as good, neither average nor very good. 3,5 sort of. Some things are pricey- specially pick-up at airport. Rooms are clean, staff is friendly, breakfast is more than decent. Compared to other similar hotels rooms are slightly smaller, swimming pool is average and bathrooms are rather from a 3 than a 4 star hotel. Having said this, if people come for couple of days it is not a bad hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: avoid rooms to the street, there are constructions all over for the time being

Stayed here with a group of friends on two occasions - first in the new wing, then in the old wing. Both stays were lovely.

The location was fantastic and it was great to come back to such a cool and comfortable hotel after a day of sightseeing in the busy, dusty, hot streets.

Would stay again.

While on our 15 day holiday in Vietnam, we stayed 3 times at the Grand hotel. The outside of the building was like the hotels from the 30's that were "Grand"". Our room was a suite on all 3 occasions and you could imagine being back in the 20's/30's. The rooms were spacious, air conditioned, beautifully furnished, but elegant and again, gracious. The staff were very attentive and the restaurant staff couldn't do enough for you. While we only ate breakfast there, this was very filling with lots of choice. The Grand is in a good central location with lots of restaurants and shopping plazas nearby. It takes about 20 - 30 mins from airport by taxi depending on the traffic and costs about 120,000 dong, approx $6.00AU. This hotel is well worth a comfort stay if you in Ho Chi Min City. They are also building an extension to the hotel, designed exactly like the original and this will upgrade it to a 5 star rated hotel.

This hotel is lovely. It's not the swishest or the cheapest or the funkiest, but it is gracious, inviting and comfortable as well as being good value. The beds are soft, the rooms are a good size with lovely wooden floors and high ceilings and open onto balconies so no air con Asia here. Try it!

Our family of five stayed here for five days Jul 11. Firstly we were delayed waiting for our visas at the airport

For anyone who has pre purchased vietnam visas online, print out the form online before you go so you do not have to queue twice! Once for the form, second to pay and lodge the form. This whole process took two hours so we were worried about our airport pickup leaving without us.

Our driver was waiting with our name in hand and the ride to the hotel took around 20 mins. We arrived around 1130pm and our check in was extremely smooth. We were shown to our grand suite room which consisted of a main bedroom with a bigger than an aussie king size bed, full bathroom and second bedroom with two double beds. Both rooms had flat screen tvs. Two of the kids shared a double bed easily. Another full bathroom, a lounge suite with flat screen TV and a large desk with tea making facilities. Robes, silk gowns and slippers in the cupboard. All the bathroom travel necessities you need and Complimentary shoe shine available. Our rooms were extremely clean and the beds softer than normal asian hotels. Aircon was very cold.
The decor in this hotel is very french and decadent. The lift a highlight for the kids. Room service was excellent and the pool great for the kids. The hotel was undergoing construction but we did not notice any excessive noise. All the sights within a 20 min walking distance so didn't utilise taxis like I thought we would. The kids happy to walk and play in the traffic!!

Across the road a fabulous restaurant Jaspers and a sign out the front for a lady who can do your washing cheap, we discovered this on our last day after we used the hotels service! Turn right out the main door and down the road Angelines was also a good cheap meal for families, pizza and smoothies for the kids. Lucky plaza arcade has good tourist shopping. Go to the tax supermarket for really cheap grocery items.
Breakfast was good, offering both local and western food. Waitresses never let your tea or coffee even look like emptying! Trainee Number 27 a delight every morning.

All in all what really made the hotel was the service! Nothing a drama, always a smile and a refreshing experience. A great place for families to stay and would highly recommend here.

What a lovely place to stay. We stayed in the family suite as there was a few of us and the size of the lounge room would be twice as big as any hotel bedroom in the western world. Very friendly staff and attentive service from all that we came i contact with. Buffet breakfast that was included was excelent with a good variety that caters to the western and asian market. Great location well wihin walking distance of the markets, shopping centres, cathedral etc. The only negative was the sound of the building works across the road but thats not the hotels fault...besides at the end of a long day of sightseeing and a few beers with dinner we slept right through it all so it really wasnt that bad!

This hotel is in a terrific location and a great launching pad for exploring the city.

The hotel itself is a little tired and its peak was obviously some time ago. They are trying to renovate slowly which adds to the impression of a facility that is run down.

It is a tight hotel i.e. you feel very enclosed and the pool would receive about 15 mins of sun per day as it is on the bottom floor surrounded by the floors of the hotel which rise four levels up for the old wing and much more for the new wing.

The rooms were Ok -again a little tight. The beds were really comfortable. We had a family suite which was basically two adjoining normal rooms with a small shared sitting room. Our air con played up a lot and we got to know the local handyman quite well. They give you fruit each day.

Has free wifi and you can change money at a fair rate.

Breakfast was fine but probably the worst of all hotels we went to.

Service was just average. They dont show a lot of warmth at reception. If you walked away from the desk and went back 5 minutes later it is likely they would not remember you.

There is a convenience store (Circle K) right behind the hotel where you can buy your drinks.

The bottom line - if you are flying in late and leaving quickly then there is little point in paying up for a really nice hotel as you are not going to enjoy it.

However, if you want to sit and enjoy HCM for a few days then the hotel becomes more important. If this is your situation then the Majestic down the street may be a better option as it is like the Grand but restored to its former glory. Also has river views. The catch is it is more expensive.

Overall we were a little disappointed in the Grand but that was more about our expectation pre trip. It does the job as a base and I dont think you need to stay in the city for too long in any case.
