We booked Ian the Internet unsure of what we were getting. From the moment of our arrival till our departure this hotel did everything to make our stay get better by the day. We were upgraded on arrival due to my birthday the following day to a lovely suite facing the Opera House. Breakfast was great and we departed for our days sightseeing. When we got back that night there was fresh fruit, chocolates and a lovely birthday present from the hotel staff (spoilt). Due to it being a weekend each morning we were woken by music coming from the steps of the Opera House made the stay more magical. Thought the decor is slightly dated the ambiance and the staff make up for this. The hotel is right central to most attractions all within walking distance, I highly recommend this hotel due to its history and the nostalgia of what has happened in this wonderful hotels past.

Room Tip: Try and get a room facing the Opera house on the 2nd or 3rd floor closer to the Vidcom Centre across...

The prime asset of the Continental is its location and the fact that it has withstood all the (unnecessary) flashy changes. However some things need to be improved, especially the rooms need to be upgraded.

Room Tip: The Continental in Saigon was very much what I expected. However the rooms, in particular the bathro...

I think a lot of the negative comments were a bit too harsh. It's a grand old lady and it doesn't try to hide it. In all, we had a pretty good stay. I can't comment on the standard rooms but the Oriental Suite is quite lovely; very large room with high ceilings, large bathroom, LCD TV (I must say that some channels we wanted to watch were not tuning properly), overlooking the Opera House, all the amenities one would expect from a 4* hotel, and expectations set accordingly. Wifi router in each room (well in the suites anyway) though can be flaky at times. Reception and lobby were rather small as was the business center but not affected our stay. No pool, no gym but have dry sauna and spa. Breakfast was standard, if not good. The best part of this hotel, apart from its colonial character, is its location - smack-bang in the middle of town with malls, most sights and businesses within short strolls. Service was not remarkable but not bad either. Overall, we were not dissatisfied with our stay.

On first glance this is a beautiful old hotel in the affluent shopping district of Saigon. Across the road from shops such as Versace and Louis Vuitton. Unfortunately when you look past the lovely light and welcoming entrance the hotel is in desperate need of a face lift. The rooms are very old fashioned with turquoise bathrooms, chipped and old tiles in bathrooms and carpets and curtains which wouldn't look out of place at Downton Abbey. The windows are quite high so the view was irrelevant.

Breakfast was good, some variety, fresh fruit everyday and yoghurt, however everything is very formal and it feels this way, the staff looked extremely uncomfortable and un-relaxed and very few smiled, all looked a little afraid to move around freely.

A last little gripe: We went down to the bar for 'happy hour' however unless you order two drinks each this doesn't apply.

We were surprised to find this hotel so well located and with such large rooms with lovely views, when we stayed there for three nights from March 11, 2013. The service was friendly and the breakfast was good. On the whole, a very satisfying stay.

I stayed in this hotel for two nights. The hotel happily stored our luggage while we were away for one night in between. The style of the hotel is grand old colonial with lovely high ceilings, very spacious rooms - some with a small sitting room. Unlike the previous reviewer I had no issue with the large spotlessly clean bathrooms and shower. The breakfast was great and the hotel is in an ideal location within walking distance to most attractions. On the front desk was a trainee staff member who was difficult to understand as he spoke very softly and had limited english but other staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel kindly allowed our group of 5 to keep one room between us for a very late check-out as our flight back to Australia was in the evening. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If booking this hotel ask for an outside room as some rooms face inside corridors.

The Hotel Continental was quite nice. The rooms were spacious with a separate little lounge area that is good for socialising. The breakfast was good with a decent spread. The rooms feel a little old but are still comfortable. My biggest gripe is the bathrooms. They were old, and didn't have proper showers, only a hand held type one in a bath tub with a shower curtain - not so nice. The staff are friendly and the location is good.
Overall, I'd would stay here again but would ultimately choose to pay a little more somewhere else to get something a little more modern.
