First impressions were good, staff helpful and polite and foyer pleasant and modern. Rooms pretty standard. Breakfast had good variety with some extra choices not usually available.....try the salmon quiche. Pool was short on sunbeds. Dinner in the award winning oriental restaurant was ok but not as good as we had been led to expect. We met up with some other guests at a second hotel and heard that they had upgraded at Equatorial to Club Class and they were very impressed with the value. We had been unaware of this availability but if we visited again we would defiantly do this.

Room Tip: Upgrade to club class

From the time we were picked up from the airport to the drop off back the airport every stage of our stay at the Equatorial was fantastic.
One suggestion is to upgrade to the Club area out is well worth the payment.
Staff were polite, knowledgable and assisted with very need in a very respectful manner. They are all to be commended.
Thank You

Room Tip: Club area worth the upgrade

We are just about to leave Hotel Equatorial aftr staying here for the past three days. As many other reviewers have noted, this 5* hotel in district 3 of HCMC is somewhat isolated from most of the things that travelers and tourists require.

We upgraded to the Equator Floor (club facilities) which in hindsight was a good move as there are no bars or restaurants within cooee of the hotel.

The club lounge on floor 11 served canapes and drinks from 5.30 to 8 pm. The canapes were generally uninviting and some were inedible. A number of them appeared to be leftovers from some other repaste in the hotel's dining areas.

It wasn't just us either, as we noted that very few guests in the club lunge availed themselves of hot offerings opting instead for the cold offerings which were limited.

Breakfast was OK with all of the usual things on offer. However, no baked beans and the egg station cooks could do with a refresher course in how to fry eggs. Sunny side up they may be but when the membrane is still to set and they serve them semi cooked it doesn't look good on the plate and it doesn't reflect well on them.

The best aspect of this hotel is the staff. They are unfailingly courteous, polite and helpful. The pool is immaculate and is a good respite from Saigon's heat and humidity.

Would we stay here again? Probably not. We were, along with a lot of other Australians staying at the hotel the same time as us using a Deals.com package. Without the presence of the Australian contingent the hotel would have been barely 25% of capacity.

We stayed here for two nights as part of a package to HCMC and Hoi An.
We couldn't fault the place from the moment we were picked up by the airport in the Merc right up to the swim up bar in the pool area.
The pool is an oasis after a hot day in HCMC - make sure you get there about 4pm before happy hour finishes at 4:30
Breakfast is fabulous and within easy walking distance we found a laundry that did a kilo of washing for $1.00 and last night we had dinner in the street at the back of the hotel for $3.60 for the two of us. (Look for the large Bun Cha sign on the pavement)
Although the hotel is not in the central area you can take a taxi from the front door for under $4
All in all a great comfortable place to stay (and cool down) when in HCMC.

Really loved this hotel, the food was wonderful and fresh, definitely take advantage and do some laundry here as it is so inexpensive and it comes back to you as if wrapped for Christmas day- just wonderful. The rooms were roomy. Think this is a good choice for families as it's not in the middle of all this the hustle and bustle of Saigon. Breakfast was fantastic with lots and lots of choices- asian, western, and ready to make omelets. Didn't stay on the Equator floor but saw the rooms and think it's worth the extra cost. The staff was so so friendly and the extremely accommodating.

Room Tip: Spend the extra and stay on the Equator floor
