Description: Southern Vietnamese family dishes are the main focus of the restaurant. We will welcome you as if you were coming in our home, with smiles and soft atmosphere, believing that good food brings people together. In a French colonial house, we went back to the roots of Vietnamese cuisine as it was done in the Sixties without MSG.

After reading the story on their website and see all the lovely pictures they have taken from the different rooms they have we decided to go there for lunch...

The place is a bit away from the main street but when you know easy to find.
When we arrive we had our first bad experience, parking the motorbike bud they can not give us a ticket... only at night you can get... so you leaving your motorbike without any ticket.

When we where inside and ask the manager to get a ticket for us, he just say don't be worry your bike is save, we told him that we where worry as without a ticket we have not anything to say when the bike get stolen... (what is happening a lot)
We also still do not understand wy they do not want to give the ticket in the day and only in the night.

When they guide us to the place where to eat they want that we sit down in a small dark place... we told that we do not like that and ask that we can sit on the terrace. We had seen nice pictures on the website of the terrace.
The terrace is a nice place but the view is a bid disturbing... I have added a picture of the view.

The food.... pfff thats really not good, we had ordered 4 different plates and only 1 was normal.
We ordered the sunday springrolls, a crab dish, duck and a banana leaf dish.

The springrolls are very dry and hard one of the worst I have eating in Saigon... just not tasty and not fresh. The salat that comes with the spring roll was even to old to serve in our opinion.
The crab meal we even had not finished as this was just not tasty and again not fresh.
The duck was very dry and hard again... sorry to say but also this one is the worst we eat in Saigon.

The banana leaf dish was good but nothing more than that.
We really where completely disappointed with the food taste and the freshness! A big 0 on 10!

The service on the other hand was good to excellent. Our waiter know his job and was very attentive.
This is actually the only good point we can say about this restaurant as also the prices are way to high!

We paid 700.000 VND without any wine.
The prices are set for high class service and great food and location bud you get nothing of that, instead you get non fresh food, with bad taste and a view you can see on the picture.

I can not recommend this restaurant to anybody...

The reason I give poor as rating and not terrible is because the waiter was good otherwise we really would give terrible, and it would be the first time we give that rating...

We went to May on a recommendation from our host from Taste of Hoi An Food Tour, and were not disappointed.
The friendly Mr Ty (Mr T) took us under his wing and everything he sent out for us was delicious. Their Tofu is fantastic and we have been trying Tofu whenever possible since, but none have come anywhere near the tofu at Mays. Mr T took the time to sit with us and explain his passion for the dishes and authentic Vietnamese food. I hope all Mr T's dreams come true.
As others have said it's a little hard to find, so give the taxi driver the address, and don't miss out.

Excellent restaurant in an old villa.
When we arrived, a tropical rain cloud was just passing HCMC. We where welcomed by the staff outside who stood ready with umbrellas to escort us inside. Inside we where greeted by the friendly host who showed us to our table. We where seated in a smaller dining room, which made the experience much more private.
A huge panorama window lets you see inside the kitchen from the stairs to the 2nd floor.

After ordering a cocktails the host recommended some dishes at accommodate our taste. It ended up in a mix of our chooses and his recommendations.
The cocktails where not the best. I would advice the bartender to taste the drinks before sending them out. A little more alcohol would have made a difference.

The food how ever was really tasty and beautifully presented. Unfortunate we did not bring a camera, but that would also have ruined this romantic setting for a dinner.
The dishes where priced around 80-90K for the mains. Not the cheapest, but compared to the level of service and the setting really worth the little extra.

The restaurant is located in a residential area, and not easy to find for the taxi drivers. There are small illuminated signs showing the direction from the main road.

We are looking forward to return to May.

We had lunch at May and got the Maitre 'd to order for us. The tofu with lemongrass was the best I have had. We also had the waterlily salad with chicken, pork and egg claypot and the okra. It was all delicious. If you liked Cuc Gach Quan you will love this place. Love the white villa the restaurant is situated in too. A must while in HCMC.

May restaurant is hidden in a residential area in a big white villa. The interior is very tastefully decorated, but because there were only few people it was a little bit lacking in atmosphere. I am sure this will change once the restaurant is better known, so I will certainly go back.

The food was good but not very tasty. After the meal, the staff asked us for feedback regarding the food and we mentioned the slight lack of taste. We were told that the reason is that they do not use MSG. That is definitely another plus.
