“Lovely Day on the Meekong with Mango Cruises!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2014

My wife, 8 year old active boy and I yesterday enjoyed a most enjoyable, interesting and well organised tour within the Meekong Delta with Mango. From the time of our hotel pick up to arriving back late that day the trip went smoothly and was most enjoyable and informative. Our lovely guide Ms Yang provided a relaxed and well informed description of life on the Meekong and was personable and relaxed making our day by enjoyable. Very interesting and clear descriptions of some of the local industry like coconut product production, a great rice paper making experience and met some friendly locals. Great local snacks along the way and a lovely lunch at the Mango House on the river. An overnighter would have been a great idea, but our day trip provided a stres free and most enjoyable experience.

“Fantastic experience in Ben Tre village.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

What an incredible experience! From the moment we met our local guide Ms Fung to when we hugged her goodbye 2 days later we had the most amazing time. We chose the 2 day 1 night homestay with Mango Cruises. We were so lucky to meet Jay and his wife and daughter while at the homestay. The food was absolutely fantastic - some of the best we sampled while in Vietnam. We really enjoyed the cooking demonstration. We loved all the different forms of transportation and were treated so well by all. Everyone was so welcoming especially Mr and Mrs Tuong whom we visited to make rice paper and enjoy tea in their home. Everything was extremely well organized and attention to detail wonderful. We returned to the homestay after bike riding to the local wet market the day we were to leave and our rooms had been serviced with fresh towels laid for a refreshing shower before our lunch. The staff even organized a birthday cake and all sang to me for my birthday. I can't recommend this trip enough. It may seem a little expensive at first sight but when you see what you get it is well worth the money. We were never short of a refreshing drink and something to eat where ever we went. I am so glad we took this trip. Thanks again to Jay and his family for setting up this fantastic place to visit in a lovely quiet little village. I hope it never changes. So different from the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh city.

“This could be perfect......”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2014

This could be perfect if they tried alittle harder for what they charge you!
We had a great experience on our private boat down the Mekong Delta for 3 days but we paid a lot for our trip so our expectations were high. Positives: They picked us up on time from the airport which was great, the boat was lovely and staff were very welcoming, the tours were really interesting with lots of local knowledge and we loved getting on the bikes and exploring the little towns. The food was very good, lots of food to try and the chef was totally happy to make little changes as we wanted.
Negatives: The drinking water was not included in the price, we had paid for a ‘full board package’ so had expected at least water to be included in the price. Even in a 3* hotel you would expect 2 bottles of water provided on a daily basis but we had to pay extra for any water provided. The bed was left unmade everyday and the bathroom was never freshened up – little things but when you have paid a lot for a trip you expect the little things to be looked after.

Dear Emma,

Thanks very much for taking the time to submit a detailed review. It was a pleasure for me to meet you as you came through.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed most aspects of your program, including our Sampan and our friendly local staff.

In all honesty your feedback is absolutely fair and we have started providing complimentary water in the room. Staff has been instructed to ensure all rooms are made up daily.

A private tour on a private boat does have its expenses, we believe our pricing for the services provided are fair, especially for the memories a tour like this provides.

“Peaceful day trip through Ben Tre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

We had a 7pm flight home to catch on this day, so I was a little nervous about squeezing in a day trip to the Mekong right before.... But I am so glad we did!

Jay was kind enough to organise an earlier start for us, so we could finish on time (and there were no issues getting to the airport in time).

Our guide, Ms Giang, was really outstanding. Very helpful, and had so much knowledge of the area. She was happy to answer all our personal questions too, and it was great to get a local perspective of life growing up in Ben Tre, family life, school, etc.

Very relaxing bike rides through the area, it's not very developed so it's very peaceful. Mostly jungle with the occasional house, traveling down narrow concrete footpaths. All the little kids are waving and calling out hello when you go past! So nice to meet the locals too.

The boat/sampan rides were also lovely, it's interesting to go down the little canals and then come out on the big river.

I can't wait to come back and do a longer trip on the Mekong with Mango.

“Highlight of our Vietnam Trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

We chose the two night, three day private Sanpan cruise picking up the boat in Can Tho and ending up in Ben Tre.
Very easy to arrange with Jay over email and our pick up at the pier in Can Tho was seamless and easy.
As we were shuttled out to our Sanpan we couldn't believe how lucky we were. This whole boat was for just the two of us and as it came into sight we realized the internet photos do not do these beautiful sanpans justice. Five staff members were waiting for us with huge smiles.
The boats have been outfitted by Jay and his wife and have all the comforts of home. I was surprised how nice the bathroom was......and it was great to have a hot shower......our first in five days. The beds are comfortable and very large with nice linens. Air conditioning is provided. Beautiful sitting area with comfortable chairs......they have thought of everything.
I could go on and on about the food, but my husband is a great cook and even he was impressed. At our daily stops we would visit local markets to buy fresh produce, we loved not seeing any other tourists and our guide was always there to help us with any questions we had and provide information along the way. The boat stows bikes for rides around the local villages, everyone was so friendly and amused at our attempts at Vietnamese.
What we loved about our cruise was the fact it was geared towards our interests and our itinerary was always flexible. If we wanted to bike for longer we could, stop and have a look at something along the shore that looked interesting we could, or hang around the markets meeting the local people.....no problem.
On our last day we stopped by at Mango Homestay to visit Jay and his wife. What a great location, beautiful rooms......we stayed one night after our cruise and it was by far the best Homestay out of the three we visited on our trip.
We can't say enough about the staff......they truly care for you the whole time. Mr. We our guide was very helpful and fun and never tired of translating our endless questions with the friendly locals we met on our travels.
Thank you so much Jay for putting together such a memorable experience and a trip of a lifetime.
