“Good Value Food”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Just from the time we arrived at this restaurant, we were treated special. Food was great and the extra little things like welcome drinks and bread etc just put us all in a great mood for a top night

“Little Italy I the heart of Saigon”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

May not be the very best Italian food that I have ever had, but is well prepared balanced and, at thes even creative. What really makes this 3 story hole n the wall special is the ingredient that every fabulous Italian restaurant provides, you feel like you are eating The home of a dear friend somewhere in Chianti. What more can you ask.

“not Italian”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

This restaurant is not really Italian, cause also in menu can found french and even vietnamese dishes. Very small with open area/door for the street full of noisy and chaos, didn't like it. The tables very very small, not comfortable, not much space around you... They want maximize clients in minimize space, don't reccomend even if the staff quite nice. Food I have eaten much better.

Dear Meg, thanks for visiting Ciao Bella. Your review seems quite skewed as Ciao Bella has no French nor Vietnamese dishes anywhere on our menu or ever will have. Are you sure you ate here!!! We have open doors to the street, but then again many restaurants on Dong Du have. You live in Ho Chi Minh so you know the noise level of the street. We have 2 more floors for those that want a quieter meal, one only needs to ask. We don't maximize clients, we just are full every night. There must be a good reason for that!!

“Have any of you ever eaten Italian before?”
Reviewed February 9, 2013

The host / owner was a charmer for sure, and I would have to say the service is on point - but the service has been impecable at every place I have been to in HCMC. But the food, really the most important aspect, was lack-luster at best. Mostly the customers seemed to be American, so perhaps they were over whelmed, or maybe it was because they just to not have good Italian food where they are from. But any major city worth its salt, with or with out a Little Italy will blow doors off this place food-wise. Locals are always a good judge or quality, and there were none at all (working girls with their dates non-with standing). The stuffed flower blossoms were not too bad, but way under seasoned, and super tiny, although the warm asparagus with egg and parm was a bit better - but all of the stalks included the white part at the end. My date had the sea bass that was just way over portioned and would have been better filleted with the sides instead of a huge giant Orca sized whole fish slapped on a plate. I had some pasta in a cream rose sauce that was not too bad. Awesome service, great atmosphere and location, the food needs some work.

Hi Vincent, it's so refreshing to get a review from a well travelled, seasoned, senior tripadvisor reviewer like yourself. I have read all your reviews and I was totally engrossed.

Thanks for the comments on the service and atmosphere, no thanks for the inappropiate comments on the Vietnamese clients, also out on dates like yourself. Do you assume that every Vietnamese female dining with a Western man is a "working girl"?

Ciao Bella is an American Italian restaurant, and very popular with Americans, funnily enough.

As for the food the sea bass is a whole baked sea bass with herbs, and you were told that it was big enough for two to share, so no need to complain about the size.

The under seasoning will be addressed.

“This is how it should be done!”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

This marvellous little place really doesn't need any more rave reviews, does it? But here's another one anyway! I won't repeat any of the favourable remarks others have already made - I'll just confirm that none of them was an exaggeration. This chap really knows how to run an Italian restaurant (even though he's not Italian but English), the main ingredient being that he makes sure that everyone has a thoroughly good time. Well, I ask you, what more do you want?!

You just have to go there, and although the place is bigger than it looks I'll be surprised if you get in without booking.
