We did a half day morning tour to Cu Chi Tunnels followed by and evening River Dinner Cruise.
Cu Chi Tunnels - our guide was Jun, he was very punctual (unlike two other guests in our hotel!) His English was excellent, the best I have heard yet whilst in Vietnam. The tour was interesting and well paced. Jun was able to explain the history and events very well. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Saigon River Dinner Cruise - we had a different guide for this tour, he was friendly and easy to understand. I don't know his name as I am not actually sure he introduced ourselves. The dinner was a set menu, it was ok. Personally I don't think you need a tour guide for this one, just catch a taxi there and get your tickets there and a taxi home. We did not learn anything significant from our guide, which is why we choose to do tours. It was a nice way to spend an evening.

My family and I went to Saigon for Christmas and booked a Mekong Delta tour with Asiana Travel Mate via our hotel. We had not scanned the market very thoroughly but this agency seemed honest and responsive.
To recap, I would recommend using Asiana Travel Mate. Especially the guide we had, “Slim Jim” (a nice older man) as he called himself, was great in that he speaks very very good English and lends personal perspectives to what he tells. But I would recommend anyone booking a tour with Asiana Travel Mate and Slim Jim to make sharp demands on what they expect. E.g. that one expects to be picked up “sharp” at the agreed hour. If you make sure to make clear your expectation, you may be up for at great experience - maybe event one that would be worth a 4 or 5 point rating on Tripadvisory.
Here is why:
You never get a second chance to make a good impression. And so our first impression of the tour was when we sat in the hotel lobby for a full half hour and waited for our private mini bus and guide to show up. We are Europeans and we like things to run on time. Especially when we book a private mini bus and small group. So the waiting time in our previous 9 day vacation was very irritating.
After pick-up at our hotel we had to circle into Saigon to make another pick-up before hitting the road to the Mekong delta.
The mini bus was fine and our guide made a good introduction to the itinerary and added some personal perspectives on the history of his country and the Mekong Delta. Very interesting and in good English which was unique to the guides we had met during our stay in Vietnam. After one hour on the road we made a pit stop. At first it was announced to be 5-10 minutes. But suddenly we found that our guide was getting a meal while all passengers were ready to get going again.
We had to prompt him to get going again. A bit irritated he got the bus opened and remarked that he had not had any breakfast. That may be very true, but as a paying customer I cannot tolerate that I must use my previous vacation time waiting for such things.
We arrived at the Mekong Delta, were transferred to a nice boat and got going. During the next 2½-3 hours we got some very nice tours of a brick factory, a coconut farm and lunch at a private estate. It was very nice and again our guide was able to lend his perspectives in good English.
The bus was back in Saigon on time and was very close to our hotel. But then out of the blue the guide decided that he wanted to get off the bus at his office first. And we took a long ½ hour run around the congested and busy streets of central Saigon before being taken to your hotel.

After anticipation of this trip long before our arrival we decided to book through local tourist company Asiana Travel Mate,Hanoi office ,a well reviewed company with local offices throughout Vietnam.First complaint-we where told it was a 3 hour drive according to the leaflet and sales agent, not true it was four hours and at times 20 km per hour.In their defense they said it was a very long day trip, but the guide told us it was 3.5 to 4 hours as soon as we got in the car,so he knew exactly what we where in for!! After a long trip punctuated by stopping at places specifically to sell you things( oh and go to the toilet) you are dropped of at huge art centers and told you will be picked up at the other end! What the hell, all this as part of a 4 hour drive and a stop at a pearl farm that was not asked for or on the itinerary and again led out through a huge sales area( note we live in one of the pearl capitals of the world,so don't need to waste time on this( this happened on the return also) the cruise was a great boat was very traditional feel and friendly staff. Now don't get me wrong the destination is amazing, very amazing and deserves its title.Unfortunately the food on board was terrible to say the least, four hours later as we entered the car to return to Hanoi I was violently sick with food poisoning having to stop the driver at least 10 times to have to vomit on the side of the road. This illness lasted about 36 hours longer. I'm not a fussy eater and always eat local cuisine throughout Asia so this is not a story of someone with low tolerance, the lunch was frozen local food that was deep fried, possibly re- deep fried and was still a little frozen in the middle.
My advice is possibly take your own food hamper or not eat the food if you don't trust it.I haven't commented much on the fact that we had a private boat for just the 2 of us and we where pestered to buy trinkets a little beyond what was polite.
All in all a destination worth the effort but consider how you get there and its probably not a day trip

We took the Cu Chi Tunnels tour today and was very lucky to have Slim Jim as our tour guide. He was extremely knowledgable, giving us insights into the history behind the tunnels, and also a general overview of the war. Had a great time learning from Slim Jim, he definitely enriched our tour experience!

If you’re in Vietnam, you can really explore the country with this tour operator. They have nice packages depending on whether you want to relax on the sea side, visit historical places or go to much more adventures such as safari tour
The safari package is just fantastic. You will go on a tour for nine days. The booking includes reservation to various hotels at different locations in Vietnam. You start from Saigon where you are met by tour operators at the airport. They will take you to a hotel and on that they you will be able to visit much of the city. Places such as the Cu Chi Tunnels are a wonder to see.
The trip will take you on a boat ride to Sadec in the Mekon Delta region. There is a local market where the fishermen sell their fish. It’s a nice ride; you get to watch them catch fish and the surrounding is beautiful. You can also spot a variety of birds. From there you go all the way to Tram Chim. The tour operator comments about the flora and the fauna as well as the ecology of the area. There a lots of migratory birds to spot very beautiful.
The whole trip to Tram Chim will take like five days. You stop in town like for a day or two and also have the opportunity to visit some markets or buy souvenir. You will then continue on with the boat ride to Rach Gia and then to Phu Quoc. In this part of the trip, we stayed at the Mango Bay resort. A very luxurious place, very modern and comfortable; Phu Quoc is where you will actually have most of the excitement. There is the Phu Quoc National Park where you will see many endemic species.

Phu Quoc is also an island and the resort right at the beach so you have the opportunity to relax on the beach, do some water sport. It’s fantastic really. You stay at the resort for about three days during which, the tour operator organizes different excursions to the forest. There are many exotic trees to see and you can take some fantastic wild life photos. The whole trip is just fantastically organized. On the ninth day you take the plane back to Saigon. Its one great tour, you get to see a lot of Vietnam. Splendid!
