“Comfort food and a book exchange”
Reviewed August 26, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I were craving some western comfort food so we visited Bread and Butter, which was conveniently located across the alleyway from our hotel, Beautiful Saigon 3. Bread and Butter serves typical pub meals, which was exactly what we were craving! I had the fish and chips and my husband had the cheeseburger - both were great. As an added bonus, Bread and Butter also features an English book exchange. I thoroughly recommend Bread and Butter to any western travelers seeking some comfort food.

“Simple, good”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

This place has kept it simple and it is just basic and good. In a small alley off Pham Ngu Lao in the backpacker area there is only limited space and a rustic pub feel. Small menu with decent pub grub and a roast on Sunday. Not as cheap as some other places but I guess with the limited capacity, decent down to Earth food and cosy, quiet atmosphere they can afford to charge a little premium. A good choice in the area and definitely worth a visit.

“Great place to unwind”
Reviewed May 24, 2012

Bread and Butter was a great place to relax and get away from the Hectic streets of Ho Chi Minh.

Ice cold Huda beer (Dan/owner only stocks 1 type but it 's good and ice cold)
A food menu that although small is well thought out with something for everyone. All food is fresh and cooked just like home.

I enjoyed many evening's here after a busy day sightseeing. It was nice to drop in and hear the locals (Mostly expats and teachers) talk about their intriguing lives :)

All were happy to chat and offer advice on where to go and what to do.

There is a quite upstairs area for a more private setting,,, just watch your Head.

“Awesome pub grub”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

I just got home from a very satisfying serving of bangers and mash... Very well done. The menu is very small, which I think is great - it means there's nothing on the menu that's a rarity for staff to prepare, and you can count on fresh ingredients. It's not as cheap as eating Vietnamese food, but you'd be very hard pressed to find quality Western food anywhere else at these prices. The owner, Dan, is always there and hands you the plate himself, so you can be assured of quality control. Great rock music is always being played, and the crowd is a nice mix of tourists and expats. The crowning achievement is the BEER. Dan serves Huda Beer, and he's the only guy in town I know that does. It's a beer made in central Vietnam, and it's such a nice change from the Tiger/Saigon/Heineken Beer selection available at every single location in the city. And at current exchange rates it come to $1.15 US for a bottle that's been kept on ice. Dan's also a funny, personable guy, and all of the above adds up to Bread & Butter being one of my favorite haunts in Saigon these days. Highly recommended.
