Kim's Place

Central location, rooms with air con, rooms even come with a desk top computer which is rare in Vietnam. Only down fall and its a pretty big one is loud music coming from next door that plays till like 2am, felt like I passed out in a club but then i would wake up and actually be in my room. Booked my bus and a Mekong delta trip thru them and both were good. If your partying all night and just looking for a room to come back and crash in this place is perfect but if your wanting to sleep uhhh maybe look for somewhere else lol

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff is nice and helpful and book good tours and transport for a fair price. Nice breakfast included. Can be a bit noisy at night because it's really close to all the bars which is also good :) Rooms have computers with internet, handy if you don't have your own laptop or iphone.

For 6dollars a night with a tv, personal bathroom and comouter it was all worth the money. Booked a mekong delta tour which was great thru the hotel. Aswell as our bus to phnom peng. Great location, one minus the bar next door blasts live music till 2am. As well one night power going out including aircon but was restored 30minutes later.

Rude staff ( treated us like idiots) reception staff constantly frowning and never wanted to help for the smallest requests and would rather laugh and put you down. Avoid the smallest lady she is Satan.

Cats constantly sneaking in your room, Everything smells of cat urine and faeces. When we arrived there was 2 cats living underneath the bed and had to ask twice for them to be removed!

Room over priced and very unclean. Deftentitly not worth the price, you can find much better, cleaner and friendlier places for much cheaper prices.

Hidden costs when we left, over charged for laundry. Lied to us about bus times when we tried to leave HCMC.

I don't ever complain about a guest houses or hotels, ecspecially a small family ran business but this place was so rude and unpleasant i feel the need to warn other travllers to not waste their money on a place that was so rude and made us feel like idiots for just trying to use their service. Plenty of other hotels in the area that are much better. Don't bother with this place.

After arriving late at night mr Kim was very help full to get us to his place only to charge me $10 for a very small room, with no hot water and a door to the toilet that is more broken than a door.

The room might be quiped with a fridge, TV and computer but it dosn't help when the shower is low presurre and ice cold. The window don't even have a bug screen and theres a plain hole in the wall.

I'm heading out of here...

The only good thing about the Hotel is the Location but there are hundreds of better value and quality hotels a\in this area so you can find better: DONT STAY at Kims Place!

First, we arrived around 5pm after a 8 hours bus ride and apparently they couldn't find our reservation and they said to us that they dont have anymore room for us! So after 20 minutes to them they finaly decide to call their boss and the boss said that he will arrive in the next 30 minutes to find a solution... Fine!

After another 1 and a half hour of waiting the boss finaly arrive and we were obviously not happy about that so we told him. His only answer was shouting on us very agressively that he didnt want to die on the road for us thats why he was late... ok...!

The boss offered us to take a bigger room for an extra $1/night as the double room that we booked was not anymore available. We were very tired and fed up that we accepted that.

So they put us in a 2 double room but at 10pm at night when we were about to go to bed a lady came to knock our door to tell us that we have to move room because a group of 4 people arrived and they sold the room to them...ahhah!

We saw the group of 4 people and they were in the same situation as us so we agreed to move to another room which was the room that we originaly booked and they gave us back $3/night... What a mess!

The boss wasnt helpfull and the lady who look after the place was even worse! When we first met her she was very agresive and unhappy and mentioned that she hates her boss...
She was not helpfull all the way and when we get back our 1 kg laundry wich was suppose to cost us $1, she tried to charge us $3.5 so I paid only $1 and she told me in front of every other guests F...k off!

Last word: DONT STAY THERE! There is better places

We arrived in Ho Chi Minh from a night bus and were hounded by several hoteliers. We were lucky to bump into a fellow traveller who pointed us in the direction of backpacker district - whilst there we were hounded and quoted over-the-odds prices. We had seen Kim's Place in Lonely Planet and as soon as we arrived the lady was exceptionally friendly and put no pressure on us at all to book. She took us up to our dorm room and promissed us it would just be the four of us in a six bed dorm - it would be our private room for only $5 a night. She kept her promise.

We stayed for 3 nights and loved every second. The room was air conditioned with a TV and internet accessible computer. Something which is not standard in many hostels.

Breakfast was basic, baguettes, margarine, jam and a banana or they would also cook you an omlette or traditional noodles. Kim (as we nicknamed her) kept bringing out food until we were full.

We also booked our Cu Chi Tunnel tour with the company who are based in the hostel and it was an excellent trip - Kim gave us free water to take with us too.

What was different about this hostel was the friendly nature of everyone there. Kim adopts street cats, takes them to the vets and dresses them up in little outfits so they don't get confused for stray's - the cats love her and she loves them. They are also very friendly and don't mind if you pick them up for a cuddle - if you're a cat person they will even sleep on the end of your bed - but if you don't bother them they wont bother you.

The hostel also booked our next over night bus with an excellent and reputable company for a discount price as we were staying with them.

All in all an outstanding experience - I would recommend to anyone.

(Do not confuse with Kim's 2 down the road - I can't vouch for that one!)

Room Tip: Large groups can opt for a dorm but singles we spoke to were very happy too.
