“Nice hotel”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

We stayed for two nights in a club junior suite on the 18th floor. Our room included two double beds, large bathroom with freestanding bath and seperate shower, a sofa/sitting area and desk. And two TVs, one being at the foot of the bed. We also had access to the club lounge which meant we had afternoon tea and cocktail hour (free drinks and canapes for three hours each evening). They allowed us, even suggested, we used the lounge after we checked out at 3pm as our flight didn't leave until late in the evening. Wifi access was also good - we managed to watch a number of films online during our stay.

In terms of the local area we tried to go for a walk but there wasn't much to see. We ended up in the shopping centre next door (which can be accessed direct from the hotel), this has a good coffee shop and there's also a food court on the top floor.

I wanted to give this hotel 5 stars but there were a couple of things which let it down for me in comparison to others I stayed in during my trip (in particular the 5* Hotel Metropole in Hanoi which cost a lost less). I didn't like the pool area as it was quite sparse, with few loungers and little landscaping. There was no service at the pool as I had experienced in other hotels, for example you couldn't get food/drinks served to your lounger. I also felt the rooms were a little cold, both in terms of aircon but also atmosphere - it felt a bit bland and transitory, rather than a home from home environment. I guess modern Japanese design just might not be for me!

One word of warning also - on a number of occasions we were conned by taxi drivers taking us to the hotel and significantly overcharged. I presume because they think if you can afford to stay there you can afford to pay them extra. One even appeared to delight in asking us how much we'd paid for our room!

When we arrived from the airport hotel staff informed us we'd been overcharged by 100,000 Dong (1/3 of the fare) and discussed it with our driver to no avail - they ended up suggesting we pay the driver what he was asking so that he would leave (presumably to stop an argument from blocking the front entrance.) Another time a taxi driver took us on a 20 minute 'detour', we'd earlier done the same journey in 2 minutes. This was quite frightening given we were in a strange city at night and when we arrived back at the hotel and asked staff for help they again just suggested we pay the taxi driver what he was asking. I would like to think the hotel could complain to Vinasun about their drivers ripping off and scaring guests.

The hotel is situated within walking distance of down town and major attractions. It is approximately 30 minutes taxi ride from the airport. The room was big enough and the bedding comfortable but had a quirky addition.. there is a separate toilet and shower then there is a bathtub and across from it a wash basin in the open between the bed and toilet and shower. Apart from this it is pleasant. My room was on the 22nd floor overlooking the neighborhood away from the city.
The staff were helpful and happy to help. Reasonable value. There is free wifi everywhere but I found this to be the case all over Vietnam.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking time to write your experience at Hotel Nikko Saigon.

It was very good for us to learn you’ve found our room spacious as we have the largest standard room size among the 5 star hotels in Ho Chi Minh City. Some of our guest prefers the separated toilet set-up in our standard rooms. Hopefully on your next visit, you may choose to stay in our Deluxe Premium rooms where the toilet and bath are in one area. We also shared with our team members your comments about our helpful and always happy to assist staff. Thank you for the motivating comments.

We greatly value your insightful feedbacks on our facilities and services. We look forward to having you stay with us again in the future.

Sincerely,

Stayed here for a few nights after roughing it across Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and it was a wonderful end to our holiday. Staff on arrival couldn't have been keener and more helpful/friendly...we'd booked a club room as for the addtional $20 or so you have access to the club lounge and its complimentary food and drinks all day, afternoon tea, light supper, canapes and cocktails/alcoholic drinks. Meant we didn't buy any food or drink the entire time we stayed so ultimately a saving - but frankly any of the rooms here i'm sure would be excellent and your stay just as good regardless of having club access. The spa facilities were great - didn't see another soul in there once - an infinity hyrdology pool, sauna, steam room and relaxation room - all scrupulously clean and well maintained. There's an outdoor pool with excellent views across the city too although it was a little windy (wet season) while we were there so didn't use. We'd spent a couple of nights in the centre of Saigon beforehand so had 'done' the city already so the hotels location wasn't an issue for us but i should add that its right on the edge of District 1 - not really all that close for a stroll into the centre of town (although still walkable if you were making a day of it and taxi's are obviously very cheap here anyway). Other than the location, which wasn't a factor in our stay here, i couldn't fault the place - excellent.

Room Tip: Spend the extra on a club room if you're an afternoon tea fan - fabulous!

My wife and I spent 3 nights there and we were upgraded to Grand Deluxe. We normally do not stay in such a big hotel such as this one. But we were surprised by the their attention of details. The room was spotless. Very clean and tidy. Wifi throughout the hotel, password not required. Complimentary shuttle bus to various part of the city. Breakfast was good and was not the same thing everyday. But the only down point with big hotel is that you do not have quite moments to yourself, especially @ the breakfast. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Highly recommended!!!!!!

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are good but make sure to ask for a non-smoking floors.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay at Hotel Nikko Saigon.

We are very happy to learn that the spotless, very clean and tidy room we provided was up to your standards. Most of our stayed guest finds our room fresh and very spacious in size. As a standard, we provide free wifi connection not only in our guest rooms but all the indoor areas of the hotel.

We were also delighted that you find our buffet breakfast good. It’s the “talk of the town breakfast” among the 5 star hotels in Ho Chi Minh were we serve the widest selection of breakfast food items.

We hope that you have chance to come back at Hotel Nikko Saigon and discover more our products and services such as our Nikko Club Lounge at the 23rd floor, a perfect place to enjoy Ho Chi Minh City skyline.

We hope to see you again soon.

Having travelled extensively over the years, we have NEVER experienced the brilliant service like this Hotel offered. Having lost my I Pad is some unknown Day Spa we emailed the Hotel vague directions as to where it was left and by the time we got back to Australia they had gone and found it - then contacted us to send it to Aus for us !! Food in the restaurant was the best we had in all of Vietnam, best exchange rate offered and helpful, english speaking staff.
Top ranking Hotel !!!

Room Tip: Rooms was spacious and easy access to Gym and Pool.

We stayed here three nights with 2 adults and 2 children. My eldest daughter has confidently voted it the best Hotel she has stayed at in the whole world. The breakfast buffet is a real highlight - huge selection of fresh clean food. The Hotel is new, and spotless. We used all the facilities including the pool and the sauna. The service wa great, the staff were very helpful with shopping tips, what you should pay etc. There is a free shuttle bus which takes you to major sites around the city. Re shopping, skip Ben Thanh market and go straight to Saigon Square 1, better prices and less pushy traders. Its a short cab ride from Ben Thanh back to the Hotel, about 70,000VND. Be careful though we jumped in one unbranded cab and the meter magically jumped from 47,000VND to 100,000VND before my eyes! Didn't pay it of course, but another reminder to only us Vinasun cabs.

Would definitely recommend

Room Tip: All the rooms are new, we had two Queen beds which was very comfortable.

I will start by saying that I love the Nikko in general because I like modern style in hotel décor. The room was large, very comfortable, and quiet. The bathtub is fantastic; it was a Japanese style soaking tub and my favorite of all the hotels we stayed at on our trip. The breakfast buffet is very large with a lot of variety. All staff were friendly and helpful, and I liked their professionalism. The only minor thing is that the hotel is not located at the center of Saigon near many of the other top touristy hotels, but is still centrally located enough that it is a short taxi ride to get to the more central area. There are some good restaurants and shopping fairly close to the hotel (within walking distance). I liked that it was right next to a mall/multi-level department store that had some nice choices for clothes, cosmetics, bath and body products, etc.
