Beautiful Saigon 3
I have eight categories to judge a hotel: a) price, b) bed quality, c) sleep quality - this would include problems like hearing a neighbour through a wall, parties, construction, d) proximity to restaurants (within a fifteen minute walk), e) location (proximity to attractions both by tuk-tuk and walking), f) reception - treatment by hotel staff and overall friendliness toward clients, g) amenities (including price of hotel taxi and other small items such as shampoo, razors, etc); and h) overall feel and sense of the hotel, its staff and the neighbourhood (perhaps a subjective category).
The price of the Beautiful Saigon 3 is reasonable for its category. The bed quality is quite good; we found the bed firm and the pillows comfortable. Sleep quality is reasonable: we could hear street noise though it was buffered by the bathroom which segregated the sleeping part of the room from the alley. Other clients who had their bed nearer the alley complained more about noise. We also could hear the water pipes. Our room was also affected by the elevator: the reverberation noise was felt across the room several times but usually it ended by 9:30 pm and started around 7 am. It depends on how many people are going up and down!
Several decent restaurants were nearby. We ate twice in the Sisters Cafe near the entrance and would recommend this place over the hotel's restaurant. The decor is nice, they play a number of great songs and the owner is very friendly. The streets are crowded though and vendors come in and out of the restaurants plying their crafts often.
The main receptionist was very cordial and the bellboy very helpful. They didn't seem to be super efficient around organizing tours, however, there are several high level companies five minutes away. One issue I had with the hotel was the cost of their hotel taxi. Compared to other hotels throughout Vietnam it's overpriced by 5 to 8 dollars (yes, they pay a parking fee and a toll but the amount is not great). The hotel is about 30 minutes from the airport (in terms of time and traffic. I would recommend an airport taxi - just ask the price and don't pay more than 8 to 12 dollars (compared to the 20 dollar fee for a hotel taxi).
We had no problems with the amenities or extras such as Wifi. We enjoyed our three-night stay at the BS 3, but might look for a different hotel next time. Enjoy your travels.
