Normally I would always head to the museum first thing when I reach a country I have yet to visited. But this museum is atrocious; I have never see a museum that has so little to offer. 10 minutes walking around this area, and you'll be done with the museum and you will hardly feel enriched with any knowledge. Go to the war remnants museum instead!

The ground floor has some interesting displays of craft and life in the past and the modern equivalents. I realy enjoyed these. There is also a display on traditional dress of various tribal groups and the ddifferent wedding ceremonials. Upstairs is devoted to the different war efforts and is again (as with much else in Vietnam) somewhat narrow in focus. But still interesting. The building is also lovely. Glad we went.

Lots of really specific details but no over arching info to summarize and give a good idea of an overview of their history... mainly just lists of really specific things like exact dates someone said something.. goes too much in depth on smaller things rather than giving a good explanation of the overall events

Very underrated museum! The collection is so informative and interesting! It has been done with a great deal of love for details. There is information about Vietnamesegeography, history, art, belief, as well as everyday-life throughout the time.
Many pictures and sculptures - so not boring at all and also good for kids!

Housed in a beautiful colonial building, the museum is not the easiest visit in Saigon due to a lack of English signage inside and no real feeling of flow between exhibits.

However, I felt it was worth a visit - but you will need to be quite self sufficient and have a good grasp of Vietnamese history and politics to make sense of what you are seeing. If you can read French, the exhibits covering the end of the French period are very interesting.

There is a little bit of everything here - from understanding the geological makeup of the area and showing the growth of the city as a metropolis, to the trades important to the city's growth and then more recent history, as you would expect.

It shouldn't be anyone's first stop in Saigon, but is worth an hour for self sufficient tourists to add to what they have seen elsewhere. At less than 1$ to get in, it's a worthwhile stop.
