“There are better places to stay in Ho Chi Minh City - look around!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2011

Pros:
Excellent Free Wireless internet (which one would expect in nearly all hotels in this city)
Excellent location near Ben Thanh market. A couple of $ taxi ride into 'town' or a 10-15 minute walk.

Cons:
Free breakfast was shocking - there were ants in the sugarbowl, swapped for another bowl which was full of ants as well. Shuddered to think of the state of the kitchen. There are plenty of places to eat around the hotel and near Ben Thanh market.
Room was extremely small and cramped - no space to move around for a couple. For a few $ more, book somewhere else. Bathroom was not clean - apparently this hotel is less than a year old, but the interior looks very dated already.
If on a lower level, street noise may affect quality of sleep if you are a light sleeper.
This hotel charges $25 for airport pickup and drop off. Actual fare on a reputable company such as Mai Linh or Vinasun should be ~$6!

Comments:
If changing money, do it at the gold shop across the road from this hotel - it had the best rate for AUD and USD that we found anywhere.
For quality tailoring services, step right next door for friendly and value for money service at Smiles Tailoring Shop (run by Happy!!).

I switched to this hotel after staying in the Pham Ngo Lau area during the earlier part of my trip. This was about US$10 more than the first place, but reasonable at US$30. I got a smallish room with window, and near new furnishings. Can't do much in the room except sleep as there's not a lot of room to move around, but it's very clean and housekeeping comes in daily. Finishes are typical with smooth tiled floors, sturdy furniture, firm bed, and a bright almost-sterile color scheme. It includes breakfast but I never bothered, as I tend to enjoy randomly finding food myself by exploring the city.

The location is outstanding, just doors away from the Ben Thanh market, and a good base to see a lot of things. At night, there's a guy who sells pressed-while-you-wait sugar cane juice on the sidewalk a few doors towards the market. It was refreshing on a hot evening, but you should have a robust stomach, as I'm not sure it's necessarily the most hygienic operation Ive ever seen. If you're okay with street food, you should be good though. I went back every night, it was so good. There is a big Highland coffee half a block in the other direction if you need a modern clean place with A/C and wifi to hang out at when you're not busy eating street food or going to museums.

Wifi in the hotel itself was strong, and customer service was decent. There were three different staff members I dealt with and they were all pretty straight forward helpful people. They charge a slight premium for using a credit card (a couple of percent or something like that) which is not unusual in this part of the world for mom and pops, but also offered to discount my stay if I committed to more than 2 nights (dropped it a couple of dollars a night).

I'll likely stay here again on a future visit, but would also scout around in other parts of town for a change of scenery.
