French themed hotel. Rooms clean but have no windows, some do though so check. Booked through agoda and got a cheap deal so you pay for what you get. In the room you get a desktop computer , mini safe, fridge etc.
Bathroom is nice. Only bad thing I can say is that the breakfast isn't great and people smoke everywhere in the hotel. Rooms don't smell though.near markets and museums. Nice stay for three nights

I stayed @ this hotel for the first time in November 2009. A friend who lives in HCMC recommended this hotel as it has a great location, close to the popular Cho Ben Thanh market about 5 minutes walk away. There are also plenty of stores on the block incl. salons, etc.

We paid about $30 CAD for a night which was great. The room was clean, clean sheets on the bed, there was also a computer in our room with free internet access which was very convenient for us to communicate with friends & family back home or if you need to book any tickets. At one point our air conditioner broke down and they sent someone up to fix it within an hour.

Breakfast was also included in our stay, however, we ate outside of the hotel as we woke up past the breakfast time. We stayed for 3 nights and were leaving to Nha Trang - they let us leave our luggage there while we were away, as we'd be returning back to the hotel after we return. The front reception told us that our room would be reserved for when we return.

When we returned, they had given away our room which cause inconvenience to us as we almost had to search for another hotel to stay in. Fortunately, a room free'd up but it was a VIP suite downstairs which costed double the amount ($60 CAD per night). We decided to upgrade to the room as it was least hassle free. The room was very nice, carpet floors, clean bed, a computer was in the room as well. The bathroom was clean, the showers were even more impressive - almost couldn't get the shower to work because it seemed so high tech! However, no warm water was working that night.

When we checked out, the front desk charged us for a few cans of Red Bull which we did NOT drink. Not sure if the cleaning lady decided to have some free drinks while cleaning our suite or if the room was not restocked when we arrived. Word of advice - make sure your fridge is full stocked when you arrive so you don't get suckered into paying for it at the end for not knowing it was empty!

Overall.... great stay. Will stay here again when I return this February 2012 :)

Room Tip: Make sure air conditioner is in working order :)

Like one of the other reviewers, we had originally booked at 132 Ly Tu Trong but when we went to check in, the guy said they didn't have any rooms available and sent us over to this hotel (179 Ly Tu Trong) which was just 3 minutes away so the bellmen helped us wheel our stuff over there. Minor inconvenience but worked out so I wasn't too upset. The room was ok, good size but not very luxurious, had some tacky wallpaper design. The lighting was dim and had a dingy feel to it. We had a tiny window looking directly into the building next door so the window was worthless. The bathroom was ok, our room only had a standup shower enclosure which was small but the pressure was strong which was good. There was free WIFI with a good signal so that was a plus, there's also a PC in the room with free internet if you don't have your own laptop. The breakfast was good, sufficient to start the day with your basic Asian food and some western stuff. The hotel is only 5 minutes walking distance to Ben Thanh market just around the corner which was convenient although there's nothing really good at Ben Thanh market (overrated in my opinion). The staff were ok, didn't really interact too much with them. Overall, I'd say this hotel is a good value in a good location. Clean, safe, good after a long day for sleeping and showering. Nothing spectacular but nothing glaringly bad. It's your average run of the mill hotel in Ho Chi Minh city in this price range.

We had high hopes for A & Em as a local friend recommended the chain for being fairly new. Besides the location, it does not have much else going for it. Our deluxe bedroom initially seemed fine but we noticed that it was dingy from the decorations to the sheets. Our shower had a gaping hole where the vent should be so we called the front desk to fix it before we went out to dinner. When we returned it wasn't fixed but luckily our friend was able to cover the hole. Our shower had a leak so water flowed onto the bathroom floor when we bathed. The shampoo and body soap weren't labeled so we weren't sure what was what. The soaps were in a convenient dispenser in the shower but you could see that they had been sitting there for a while. Best to bring your own as the stuff in the dispenser looked old. The breakfast buffet was limited and did not look or smell appealing. The street vendors out in the alley (to your right when you exit) seem to have better food. Customer service was nil unless you smiled and instigated conversation with them. At check-out the front desk gal asked for our credit card number that we used for Agoda as she said she was having trouble looking up our reservation. I refused to give her the credit card number as she had the Agoda number to reference. After some time she said she found it, although our friends noticed that she was looking at gmail and wasn't attempting to find our reservation at all. Her behavior seemed a bit suspect as we continued our trip because the next 3 hotels that we booked on Agoda did not ask for our credit card information when we checked out. For the price, I would suggest booking another hotel as there were plenty along Ly Tu Trong Street as well as a few other A & Ems. Perhaps it was our luck to book this one.

I was originally booked to stay at the A & Em Hotel at 132 Ly Tu Trong, but when I arrived, the person at the front desk told me that they did not have room at that particular location. Instead, they would put me up at their sister location at 179 Ly Tu Trong, which was about half a block away. It was late at night, and after flying for 20+ hours, I just wanted a clean, safe place to sleep, so I didn’t put up much of a fight.

I stayed one night at 179 Ly Tu Trong, which was a fairly pleasant experience. The hotel is clean and modern. If you look too closely, you’ll notice some imperfections, but all in all, given the low room rate, this is a good place to stay. The hotel is close to Ben Thanh market, so it is centrally located. My room was equipped with air conditioning, a nice, large flat-screen tv with a lot of English language channel options, and a personal computer with free internet connection. Staff is fine (not effusively friendly but not rude), and the breakfast is ok. Overall, though, I would say the positives outweigh the more mediocre aspects of my stay.
