“Mekong delta”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

Had a great day trip down to the Mekong Delta. Multiple types of different boats were used, going into to small channels past how the locals really live. Huy Nguyen was a good tour leader, showing and explaining to us lots of things we could have easily missed out on if we were on a big bus tour. Lunch provided was really great, Vietnamese style and not westernised.

“Not a great tour - waste of time! Cu Chi Tunnels”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

The tour was supposed to be 5-6 hours and it actually ended up being 7 hours. We were picked up first and the second pick-up the people were eating breakfast so instead of waiting we went out of our way to pick everyone else up and then come back to get them just to head in the opposite direction. Waste of time.

On the tour we were supposed to visit a local family and learn about them and how they live. We pulled up to a house that was run down with a basic garden and a dog on a chain and stayed for literally 5 minutes. Waste of time and not a truthful description of the experience for the tour info.

The Cu Chi Tunnels was the only thing I was interested but didn't love that either, the propaganda regarding the war was disheartening. The tour itself over all was interesting and a bit disturbing. This I think it should have been the only stop on the tour period.

On the way back we went out of our way to stop at a handicap government artists' workshop that was not scheduled or supposed to be apart of the tour. We were given a 5 minute tour and then we were sent through and area to buy the products. Uncomfortable and extended our tour time quite a bit when we were already running late, on top of that it wasn't something that was in the tour description at all.

A 5-6 hour tour taking 7 hours is unforgivable when people are traveling and are on tight schedules this is something that a tour company this large should be aware of.

We were given a 30 minute window for pickup as was everyone else from 7:30am-8am. It took us an hour to pick up everyone. We confirmed our tour more than 24 hours in advance and asked ourselves for a confirmation and a more specific pick up time. We never heard back and weren't sure if we would be picked up.

Overall I'm very unhappy with the experience and Urban Adventures in general.

Thankyou for taking the time to review our Ho Chi Minh City Urban Adventure. As you can see from our average rating of 4.5 out of 5, we proudly operate high quality tours in Ho Chi Minh City so I am very disappointed to read about your experience and would like to address the issues you have raised.

I have spoken to the local guide in question and discussed this with our management team in Ho Chi Minh City. Regarding the delayed pick up time. Unfortunately, the passengers from the Caravelle Hotel were still having breakfast at the appointed pick up time. Unable to be ready in time, our local guide made the decision to continue on for the other pick ups and return to the Caravelle as the last stop in order to give these late passengers the chance to get ready and not miss their tour. This is the reason why the pick up was longer than usual and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.

One of the unique features of our Urban Adventure to Cu Chi is that on the way we stop off at the house and farm of a local family to experience what local life is about. Our company has made an exclusive arrangement with two families which enable us to drop in and meet them and see their home. On the day your group stopped at one of these families residences, unfortunately the family was out for the day and did not notify our company that this would be happening. This is the first time this has happened and we will follow up with the family to ensure this does not happen again. As a result of this, our local guide decided to spend some time at the rubber plantation instead.

Regarding the visit to the handicapped workshop. You are correct, this is not part of our tour and we are not the type of company that encourages shopping stops on our tour. When asked about this stop our local guide has told us that one of the passengers on your tour requested to stop here. Regardless, our policy is clear regarding shopping stops and the appropriate disciplanary action will be taken against this guide.

I understand that you have found the Cu Chi Tunnels themselves to be uncomfortable. Certainly, many sites dealing with the Vietnam war do evoke strong feelings from people who visit them and seeing the reality of how the war was fought can be very confronting. We also find that after gaining an understanding of the war from a Western perspective, when the Vietnamese perspecitve is presented it can be very different and challenge the visitors perception. Our stance as a company is to let the passenger decide for themselves - the Cu Chi Tunnels is one of Southern Vietnam's biggest tourist sites and there is a certain curiosity about the war from many tourists who visit Vietnam. Our job is to show you this site, to educate you about how they functioned and then to let you form your own opinion about the war and how it was fought. I'm glad that you found this part of the tour interesting.

Again, many thanks for your feedback, we value all types of feedback - positive and negative. Apologies that the tour ran an extra hour than stated and we will ensure that some of the problems you experienced will be addressed so that Ho Chi Minh Urban Adventures will live up to its strong reputation.

“Humbling experience”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

A very interesting, informative and humbling experience. The tour gives you quite a level handed recount of the events in the area and makes you think about the effectiveness of war. The locals spirit, determination and ingenuity is an eye opener and makes you appreciate what our boys where up against. Our guide, affectionately known as Gem, was very friendly, informative and patient with all our questions, not only about the tunnels but Vietnam in general. Would happily recommend to anyone.

“Cu Chi Tunnels & Cao Dai Temple Tour”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

We had pre booked this tour with Intrepid Urban Adventures and with being our first trip, did not know what to expect. From the time of pick up and meeting our tour guide, Tong Chung, our fears were immediately put at ease. Picked up on time, with a very pleasant tour guide, we headed off. A long car trip ahead was made a lot shorter with our friendly guide pointing out many places of interest and giving good explanations of these places.
Starting with a great meal with a local family then on to the colourful temple for a very informative tour by our guide. Well worth seeing.
The Cu Chi Tunnels was an excellent insight into what went on in the past and an experience we will never forget. Just amazing! Once again our guide gave an informative tour and we left here with a greater appreciation and understanding of life in Vietnam.
Overall this is an excellent day tour.
Thank you Chung and Urban Adventures.
Well worth it!!!
