Golden Central Hotel

This hotel was booked for us as part of a private tour by car from HCMC to Hanoi. It was fairly basic and the room was very small and a little tired. It would seem they spent a lot of money on the shower recess - practically needed a license to operate it! The bed was comfortable but I found the pillow was very hard. Breakfast was OK and the pool was adequate for a cooling dip after a hot day. It was situated in a good spot, an easy walk to the main shopping street and the surrounding area. Very close to Ben Thanh Markets. It was an adequate hotel for a short stay in HCMC but would find it very cramped if staying for more than a couple of nights.

We were disappointed. We have checked hotel reviews before arriving.

Pros: Centrally located. Rooms are big.

Cons:
In room: Not enough electric sockets. We had to ask for an extra toilet paper (they put only the one in use).

Breakfast - Need to get coupons for breakfast. Sometimes too many guests at breakfast, and no room to sit, juice jar empty no refill, scarce amount of vegetables. Service not inefficient.

Bathroom: they supply only soap - no extra items.

Our room was close to elevator - noisy whey people return to hotel at night.

Room Tip: Rooms away from elevator are quieter

Location of this hotel is excellent, within walking distance of the main daily market and many shops. Had a room with 2 single beds so not much space for anything else. One suitcase had to live on the floor for 4 days. Aircon not working when we arrived but was soon fixed by a handyman and his trusty ladder! Shower facility not well engineered, if you have the shower jets on the floor gets soaking wet. There is a full inventory of the room which is supposed to be checked by the guest on arrival (I don't know who would be bothered). Some of the items listed were not in very good order anyway. The room was clean but a bit dated, also rather noisy at times - we were on the 11th floor. Pool area quite small and needed some maintenance (broken slats in tables and umbrellas). We were quite happy with our stay, but I think for $110 you could probably do better,
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Watch out for 'tour guides' who sit down and start chatting to you (bringing out a book of glowing recommendations obviously written by the same person) and telling you about all the scams going on about town. We decided to head off quickly for an 'appointment' and when we went to pay the bill he had put his drinks on it as well. We didn't fall for that one Mr Tang!
Overall a pleasant stay in Saigon and would do it again.

I was hoping for a comfortable stay at Golden central ...I was disappointed with the size of the room, there wasn't any walking space and it was hard to store our suitcases as well. The breakfast area is also very crowded ,for its size it is bustling with guests. The only prime advantage of the hotel is its location as it very centrally located make sit easy to walk around..On the whole it was a disappointing experience.

Stayed at this hotel with my family as part of a tour package - the first night and the third night of our tour. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room decor was rather dated, but very neat and clean.

What really we felt out of place in the room was the super futuristic shower contraption in the bathroom! It had digital controls for temperature, music, colourful lighting etc. There shower jets from every direction - rain shower from the top, massaging jets along the sides, and even a water-jet foot massager! The bottom tray can be turned into a jacuzzi with powerful jets, complete with colourful lights that change the colour of the water :P

Breakfast was included in our package - it was served in a cafe at the top floor so the view of the city was quite nice. The food was not fancy, but quality was ok - a mix of Vietnamese stuff and continental breakfast items.

The hotel is quite centrally located in District 1. It is along a main street so shops and eating places could easily be found. It is within walking distance (approx 5 mins.) to Ben Thanh Market where you can get lots of cheap clothing, local food etc. It's sort of like the Chatuchak in Bangkok, only this is mostly indoors, or like the Victoria Market in Melbourne - you get the idea? At night the near-by street is turned into a night market - which is quite interesting. The night market feels a bit like the Ladies Street Market in Hong Kong. You can try your bargaining skills - if you spot something that you like and are persistent enough, you could get the stall owner to drop as much as half to 2/3 the quoted price. But do spare a thought for the stall owners - most of them are really quite poor and they thrive mostly on tourist money. So if you feel generous, just ask for a 20-25% discount and let them earn the money - at least it is an honest living! The stuff are not really that expensive any way.

All in all, it was quite an interesting visit to Vietnam, and we would probably come back to this hotel if we were to pass by the area again.

We stayed at Golden Central for two nights. The rooms are very small with very little space for keeping baggage. However it's at a nice location and central to night market and many other venues.
Breakfast is adequate and some nice views. Being a vegetarian it is always a struggle in South East Asia. Staff at breakfast are pleasant but like at other hotels reception say nothing more than basic greetings.
Yes we would stay again.

This hotel is right in the heart of the commercial and fashionable centre of Saigon. The bedrooms are small but quite efficient and comfortable.

The restaurant for breakfast is on the 16th and 17th floors where you get good views, of course. There were not enough staff to replenish the jugs of coffee and tea for all the guests. The breakfast buffet was mediocre, nothing to anticipate with any pleasure. The staff were indifferent to us.
