Compliments to the owners for attempting to create an attraction that would seem attractive to locals visiting Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding provinces. The attraction is huge! With a some unusual talking pieces that are so unusual that they are worth talking about. An international tourist would not find this attraction worthy of their precious time to visit, except for its unusual design. The Great Wall Hotel is massive 500 room hotel that surrounds the property. Not the most efficient in design as you literally need get on a bicycle to ride down the hallways for the reception to your room. It has a distinct odor of smoke, if thats what you like in your hotel environment. The Grand Gateway is grand! Worth a picture. The amusement park is of an extreme poor quality both in design, maintenance and operations. We did not ride the rollercoasters for fear of a poor maintenance schedule. Many of the attractions are walk through and not at all the safest as they are dark and steps have been built into the pathways which make for trip hazards. These walk through attractions are all very scary - not appropriate for kids and based on Vietnamese cultural stories and faith. The water park is huge! A few slides and a massive pool. The Animal park is a shaded well vegetated area that offers surprisingly larger animal enclosures than other parts of asia. Animal care is always a huge issue in Asia and the standard of their enclosures a debatable topic. Hire a bike to ride round the zoo is an enjoyable experience with a range of beautiful tigers to observe which is the highlight as well as feeding of the giraffes. There is always room for improvement!

Dai Nam Zoo is better recommended to the natives. As you a foreign tourist, Dai Nam Zoo should not be listed on your scheudle coz it's too small & too common to deserve a special visit. 大南動物園適合推薦給本國遊客,外國遊客就不推了 - 動該物園實在太小太普通,不值得外國遊客在有限的旅期中,專程造訪。

1st of all, we had to travel by car 1.5hrs starting from the HCMC district 1. It took us 1.5 minute (abt 30km/hr) just driving around the outside of the amusement theme park, starting to count right from the turn in from the main road until the drop off point for ticketing. The amusement theme park were spectacular. There are three sections to this property.
1st - Amusement Theme Park
2nd - Open Zoo
3rd - Beach (where u could choose between fresh/salt water)
If you are thinking of walking within the property then we need to prepare a running/walking shoe.
We were lucky to be accompanied by a local guide who helped us to arrange for buggy transportation within the theme park but the only condition was to order our food via the same vendor who provide the buggy to us. We spent like 1.5hrs visiting/playing the roller cooster, eighteen layers of hell of nether world and snow city. Another 1hr in the zoo (we enjoyed the 'interaction' with the giraffe as we could touch & see the giraffe in close proximity). The theme park suits the older kids while the zoo is more for the younger ones. We do not have time to peek into the beach as we had to catch a flight. I think it is best to spend at least one whole day to explore the theme park and zoo and then another day on the beach. The property is just too big and we had to travel via buggy (5mins) from the theme park to the zoo. Bicycle rental is available. I had to mentioned again that the renovation of the theme park is spectacular.

I have been to the Saigon Zoo several times and this was my first visit to Dai Nam Zoo. This place was on the verge of closing last year, but new finances flowed in and now the place is thriving!

Comparing zoos in Asia to those found in western countries is like comparing apples to turnips. Having said that...this zoo is wonderful! It is much smaller compared to the Saigon Zoo. However, in my opinion, it is infinitely better. The zoo is remarkably clean, and the animals are well cared for and have room to roam. It is also pretty amazing how close you can get to some of the animals. They had baby ostriches in a small pen 1 meter squared that you could pet. There was also a young tiger on a leash that you could get within 1 meter of. Monkeys swinging pretty freely...all in all a very nice zoo, and a great place for some wonderful photo ops. (Oh, there was also a trained monkey show. I don't condone that sort of thing, but the audience loved it, and it was entertaining.)

However, there is much more than a zoo here so plan on spending an entire day. There is the Golden Temple, a theme park, and a waterpark with a man-made beach. I had to pay 200,000 VND to get into the park, and then another 80,000 VND to get into the zoo. There are additional charges for the waterpark and theme park, but I didn't visit those yet, but plan to in the near future. Since the financial restructuring late last year, some attractions are not open yet. But, yesterday the place was packed so I expect this to become a great escape from the city.
