Owner description: Warmest greetings from the Vietnam Cookery! Established since 1999, we are the first and most professional Cookery Center in Vietnam, teaching Vietnamese gastronomy to Tourists and other professional visitors from all over the world. Years of having tirelessly worked to give you the best services have earned us the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, and we do appreciate your interest. Our courses are hands-on classes, with an introduction to the food culture of Vietnam, providing you with a memorable souvenir to bring home.About our location: Our school is located in the heart of Saigon, from our large terrace you will have an unique view of an area that real estate developers call the "Golden Triangle".On top of having a wonderful initiation on Vietnamese Gastronomy, you will have the opportunity to go back in history and spend time in one of the last colonial building still erected right downtown. This building has been built in 1930 by the French, and was to be the residence of the Saigonese Elite. It was the first concrete building in Asia, and the pride of its French architect. Unfortunately he made a typical "colonial" mistake: as many French buildings in France, the space under the roof was divided into small rooms for the servants. When the building was finished and the apartments put on sale, none of the rich Vietnamese accepted to live there, as in Asia the tradition is to have only your ancestors' altar or worshiped gods over your head, not servants!
Useful Information: Wheelchair access, Stairs / elevator

The market trip was a good way to start the class. The school is clean and chefs are professional. It is very affordable considering you eat everything you make and you make plenty!

Was great to walk around the market and get very detailed description of ingredients. Learned so much about key ingredients to Vietnamese cooking. The Cooking school was a great space and paced well. This is a very simple class, no prep everything is ready for you. But you learn some key techniques to the spices behind Vietnamese flavor. Each course was delicious. The Chef and hostess where great. A great different activity to do.

We met the chef and host at Ben Thang market a little after the appointed time. Eventually a group of 10 or so. The tour of the market was very interesting and thorough. Maybe a little bit too much information. After a while the herbs started to run together. Fresh ingredients are a key to Vietnamese cooking. Once we got to the cooking school it was a typical set up. You were paired with someone and shared ingredients. It was promoted as a five course learning and cooking experience. There was a chef although I'm not sure he was necessary. The entire thing was conducted by a very nice, English speaking hostess. We were instructed to chop and slice various veggies for the dishes. There really wasn't any explanation of how they were going to be used and everyone seemed to kind of wing it on the prep. There was a salad first course that was made almost entirely of raw onion and was way to strong for me. There were a couple nice tasting dishes, one fish and one beef and I'm sure you could readily substitute main ingredients. Unfortunately you ate at your cooking station which was quite cramped and didn't make a lot of sense as there was an adjoining room with a long table. The dessert course was skipped entirely with no explanation. Just a bad tapioca was served instead. There was no offer or explanation to the drinks in the cooler. We helped ourselves and didn't mind paying when the hostess sort of scoldingly asked us to settle up before we left. It would have just been simpler to explain the process at the beginning. It was time well spent but could have been much more. It didn't compare to other courses I've taken.

Chef is great in cooking, of course. Teacher can speak English very well, so kind and funny. Center is sooooo clean and some helpers make us concentrate in cooking.
After the class, don't miss the certification paper :)
You can pay with cash(USD, VND), credit card and Paypal too.
But you'd better have lunch a little. You have to eat 3 kinds of meal and one dessert on and on during 2 and half hours.
