“Excellent, except....”
Reviewed December 11, 2013 via mobile

This hotel was simply excellent unless you stay on the top floor which I did. The down side to the top floor is that in the mornings preparation for breakfast service can be heard which is on the floor above. Also every morning with out fail at 6am someone would be banging on something metal. Not exactly the wake up call I wanted.
But the hotel was lovely. The staff were amazing and friendly. The breakfast was good too. It changed each morning I was there so something different every day. There was bread, jam, fruit and eggs everyday but also has option to other traditional Vietnamese food and even some carbonara.
I do recommend this hotel just don't stay on the 11th floor.

This hotel was very clean, staff were friendly and great location. Stayed there with intrepid and enjoyed the buffet breakfast every day. It is a little old and could do with some renos, but apart from that we Would stay there again.

This hotel is reasonably priced, rooms are fine if a bit old, and the staff are very helpful.
The best bit however is the location- its not in the horrid backpackers area, or the overpriced posh bit, but in a pretty authentic area. Only a 5 mins walk to the ben thanh markets or a lovely park, 10 mins to war remnants museum, but walk the other way and youll be immeresed in real Vietnamese street culture.
Great choice to stay!
Oh and I wouldnt bother paying for the window- our just overlooked a dingy back of building,.
Buffet breakfast was great

When we checked in to room 902, the window was broken and wouldn't close properly, so the street noise was a bit louder than it needed to be. And there were only 2 towels although we were three people in three beds. Literally , within minutes of speaking with the reception, we had the third set of towels and a few minutes after that someone came to repair the window and close it properly. In ever instance the staff was helpful, prompt and smiling. We practiced our 'Thank You' in Vietnamese on the door men and they were very patient with us. The doormen hailed cabs for us, gave us maps with the hotel with the address (necessary to get back) and ran out to purchase a SIM card for us. The breakfast was fine, although if you weren't there by 08:30 certain things were apt to run out. As others say, the elevator was slow but we only walked down once rather than wait. All in all - good value, great staff.

Stayed here as part of an intrepid tour group with my partner.

As mentioned in other reviews, the elevator is a bit of a shambles. The hotel has 12 floors but it is only serviced by one elevator. I'm no building planner, but I'm pretty sure whoever designed this aspect of the hotel must have bribed his way through his final exams at university.  Not only that, but this one and only elevator is painfully slow. I'm quite certain that a spaced-out tortoise high on marijuana climbing a rope could take me up to my room faster than this lift. As an experiment, I timed how long it took for me to get from the 6th floor to the lobby to check out. It clocked in at just under 8 minutes. Granted, this is an extreme illustration and many people were trying to use the lifts at that time. Oh, and every once in a while, when you're in the elevator, the lights will shut out for a second and the lift will "reset". You'll then be automatically sent to the basement. Fun times!

Elevator aside, the hotel isn't that bad. It's the very definition of an average hotel - nothing horribly wrong to destroy your stay, yet nothing spectacular. The room we had was quite spacious, but the lack of a bedside table probably contributed to this. Likewise it was nice to finally have a bathroom with space, where the toilet doesn't feel like it's in the actual bathtub. My main gripe of the room would be the noise. On the first night there I barely got any sleep due to the noise from the elevator. (That damn elevator again!) Even if someone was using the lift from multiple floors above or below, the "ding" sound kept ringing through our 6th floor hallway and into the room. Also, the bedsheets had what looked like an old bloodstain. Not pleasant. Otherwise everything else was clean.

Breakfast? Not the best, and this includes the majority of people I talked to in the group. We had our laundry done as well, and no complaints there. Service was generally quite good. Location isn't too bad. A variety of restaurants, bakeries, shopping, pharmacies and massage places are within walking distance. According to our tour leader, there's a couple of dodgy massage and hairdressing places nearby so be careful, even though they won't actively try and talk to you. It's easy to spot. A hairdresser that requires 15 scantily-clad, mini skirt wearing young women standing around the entrance? Suuuure.

Location is great, you can walk to most things in the city and it is easy to get around. The staff were very good and the rooms were large. The only down side was our room was at the front and street noise was not great especially at 2am when the workers across the road were using power tools while renovating. On the up side we had a window, not all rooms have windows so if you don't want to feel like you are in a cell ask for a room with a window.
Two doors down there is a little coffee shop that sells amazing iced coffee and danishes. great place to start or finish the day. Some great restaurants are down near the backpackers area.
