Even though room and location are ok, anyone should avoid this hotel
i had my mobile phone and some cash stolen in the room by housekeeping, and no one in the front desk seemed to care.
They almost accused me to be a liar instead of doing any research

We booked and paid for a double suite for 7 nights in advance. On arrival we were shown to a small room with two single beds pushed together. We advised this was not what we had booked so we were given an even tinier room with a double bed. We asked for our suite, they advised that the hotel did not have suites. Given that we had paid for the week we were stuck there.

The reception staff were disinterested and rude and should not be in hospitality. After a couple of days we chose to forgo the complimentary breakfast - why eat bad food when the streets are full of amazing things to eat. On our first day we were advised our room would be given 'free, everyday' coffee & milk sachets - didn't happen.

At check out there was an altercation when they overcharged us for mini bar drinks we had not consumed and would not release our luggage or passports until we paid.

Ho Chi Minh is teeming with fantastic mid range hotels, even at the current promotion this hotel represents poor value. If a hotel stay is evaluated by the room, staff and food I would have to say that in over 30 years of travel it is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. It was such a relief to leave and check into somewhere pleasant after the 7 awful days at Asian Ruby 3.

The positives: the rooms were clean (although the shower plumbing had precariously broken off the wall), it was walking distance to Ben Tanh markets and there is a lovely park over the road.

For the money you can do a whole lot better!!

Sharing my experience here on top of the hotel review, hope you find it handy in one spot: Spent 4 nights with this hotel. Slight variation on breakfast spread on each day, asian and western - can't complain with the price you pay. About 6-10mins walk to Ben Thanh market, The Sinh Tourist (De Tham Street) is opposite the hotel after the park if you join the day tour with them. We went for 1 day Cu Chi Tunnel (entrance fee $75000 vn not inclusive in the tunnel trip) and 1 day Mekong Delta (includes lunch and no fruit at the orchard and walk the bridge as stated in the itinerary).

Nice Viet restaurant on the left (few units away) of the hotel once you stepped out. Pho 24 (franchise?) is recommended, forget about Pho 2000 with Clinton's photo.

Took Petro Express at 8am to Vung Tau ($180,000vn) 1.5hr - think Greenlines or VinaExpress is cleaner. Had lunch at Ganh Hao (3D Tran Phu St) - 2 mantis (similar to crayfish), seabass, 1 veg, 4 fresh oyster (not recommended), white shell fish and 7 coconuts for $800,000 vn - good value for live seafood. Had nice ice coffee at Blue Note $15,000vn. A short walk to the left of the cafe once you stepped out is a old hotel with many parked air con minivans where you can head back to HCM for $60,000vn (not recommended, takes ~ 4hrs due to bad traffic).

The room is very clean but with cigarette smell on level 7 - staff smoked in our room leaving a burnt hole on the bed sheet and took 2 packets of our Milo. Counter staff can speak English only. Supermarket at Saigon Tax Center, opposite Rex hotel, reasonable priced crafts, etc there too.

Was fleeced by taxi driver from airport to hotel. Driver took us for a joy ride after we refused flat fee of USD$20. Meter says $108,000vn but driver (Saigon Tourist Taxi) refused to give change with $200,000 note saying we have to pay for the toll(?) but that does not cost this much. Taxi (MaiLinh) from hotel to airport costs us ~$100,000 but I gave extra $20,000vn for not fleecing us like the first driver!

We were booked into the Asian Ruby, but on our way from the airport, they phoned us to say they had water problems and we were being transferred to the AR3. Too late then to argue!! We had stayed at Asian Ruby earlier in the trip, and I think they were overbooked as their reservationsseemed to be a shambles.
The AR3 is still in District 1, but a bit further from the best area. The hotel was clean, but rooms were small and staff offhand. The hotel entrance is quite dark and the whole place seemed a dit dismal.
The breakfast was ok, but catered mainly for asian requirements. The waiter and waitress were asleep, heads on the desk, the whole time we were in the dining room.
It's an ok hotel, but we found it depressing and I wouldn't stay there again.
