We stayed there at the beginning of a month long trip around South East Asia in order to treat ourselves a little, and what a treat it was. After being picked up from the airport, we arrived at the hotel during the evening and were struck at how beautiful the hotel and surrounding grounds were. Realising that we had struck gold we were welcomed with a refreshing drink and shown to our room. The room was fantastic, with a view overlooking the Saigon river, with complimentary hand made chocolates awaiting our arrival. Breakfast the next morning was one of the best I have ever had, with asian and western dishes on offer, we were informed by Yega, the hotel manager, that we could have more than one, and that we did. Eggs benedict and french toast, some local asian delights, the names escape me, and a latte or two. As you can imagine all of the dishes that we had were top notch, we did even worry that we'd set the bar too high and that the rest of the food in Vietnam would be a dissapointment, luckily, fantastic cooking is more than common in Vietnam.
Having been struck by the architecture of the building we spoke to Yega about its history, I assumed it was a hundred years old and was shocked to be told that the Spanish built the building in 2006 and it was to act as their Consulate to be used to entertain foreign dignitaries and the like, only to then be sold as a result of the economic crisis.
All of the staff are helpful and always bringing ice cold water and offering drinks when lounging around the pool and they also know the local restaurants very well and gave some great recommendations, make sure you go to The Deck for dinner, take the hotel's personal boat for a little early evening treat. All in all, the service, food, and hotel are all fantastic and you certainly wouldn't regret staying for a night or two at the Villa Song Saigon.

Room Tip: Email first and request a room overlooking the river.

I stayed here very frequently a few years ago and came to love the place. The location and the property are unique and the staff great. Now with new management and further upgrading of facilities and service things look even brighter. Try to get a room with a balcony either facing the pool or the river. Spend lazy afternoons or cool breezy evenings along side the river. Perfect way to get away from the busy streets of Saigon. Highly recommended!

As a family of 8 we must be a daunting proposition for any hotel, but the staff of Villa Song couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The hotel has been recently refurbished in impeccable style: the grandeur of France and the charm of Vietnam set on the bank of the wide, brown Saigon river. Only 10 minutes by complimentary speedboat from the centre, it really is so much nicer than the noisy central hotels. And sipping a cocktail and watching as the fishing boats and barges pass by as the sun sets is a fabulous way to finish the day. I'd be as happy to stay here on business or as a romantic getaway. Many thanks to all of the staff at Villa Song and we look forward to our next visit.

I stayed at Villa Song in January just after the complete renovation of the hotel. It is a truly great mix of modern amenities and a historical original building with interesting details. The staff give warm personal service and the Manager and Assistant manager looked after me personally throughout the trip. I prefer the location in District 2 - right on the river - because you are away from the non-stop noise, traffic, and bustle of the other 5 star hotels in Saigon which are in District 1. Well worth trading the short taxi ride to D1 for some peace and quiet and a nice drink in the evening on the patio by the water! Overall terrific experience.

We stayed a short 2 nights at Villa Song in Jan 2014 with our 2 year old daughter, and were very impressed with the quality of the accommodation and service. The recently renovated hotel has been tastefully decorated and is immaculately clean, with a lovely outlook over the river.
The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and went to great lengths to make sure that our stay was comfortable and pleasant. All of the staff were wonderful with our daughter, always smiling and greeting her by name.
We mainly chose Vietnamese dishes from the restaurant menu, however they had a wide variety of western and asian options available. The food overall was very good (breakfast was exceptional) and the service from the restaurant staff was again excellent. They were also happy to make certain dishes that weren't on the menu to accommodate the food preferences of our finicky 2 year old. However in saying this, there are plenty of things available on the menu that are appropriate for children anyway.
The hotel is not located in the heart of the city, however I think this made it a much more relaxing stay for us. We did take the complimentary boat ride into District 1 (they also provided a child-size life jacket for our daughter) - it takes about 15 minutes and turned out to be a great way to get a different perspective of the city. I was relieved to get back to the peace and quiet after we returned to the hotel though.
All in all a lovely stay in a beautiful location and we will definitely be back when next visiting HCMC.

My family of 4 had the greatest pleasure of being the first few guests at VSS after their massive renovation in Dec 2013. We booked 2 double rooms and were offered an upgrade to the Art suite with interconnecting access to our kids' room. Although we arrived very late around 10pm, the hotel staff including the GM were there personally to welcome us. To add a smile to our tired faces, they offered us a complimentary dinner sent up to the comfort of our suite.

The service was first class as we experienced not only warm but personal and helpful service throughout our stay. The furnishings in both rooms were elegant yet modern and fittings were luxurious yet efficient. This new boutique hotel definitely wins in terms of personalised service, impressive furnishings and yummy food (breakfast was much to look forward to each morning). The staff were all well trained, this was the X factor which made our stay such an enjoyable one.

If there is any fault to be found, then it would just be that our 3 nite stay was too short. We will definitely return for a longer stay with the extended family.

This hotel recently reopened after an extensive remodel and needs time to perfect what it is attempting to become - a four/five star hotel. Staff needs training; cuisine needs improvement. Without Yega and Clara, manager and his wife, our stay might have been a disaster.

Yega T, General Manager at Villa Song Saigon, responded to this reviewResponded March 10, 2014

Dear Sir,

Thank you so much for staying with us and we are very sorry that you did not have a wholly positive experience at Villa Song Saigon. The Villa was closed for about 2 years due to a massive restoration, renovation and refurbishment exercise and we started to welcome guests again from December 14th, 2013.

I sincerely apologize for the service you received, it was during our soft opening phase and some of the food and beverage staff were still on probation / trial. We now have an experienced Food and Beverage Manager (with a Michelin star background no less) and some really wonderful team members who have elevated the cuisine and service levels. The menu has been revised, we have even added on a Tapas menu and we now have unique weekly specials.

If you are ever in the neighborhood again, I do hope that you and your lovely wife will drop by and we look forward to hosting you to some great food and drinks by the flowing Saigon River.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Yega Thiyagarajan
General Manager
