It was initially abit difficult to find as it's located in a small lane away from the busy main street. Once I stepped inside the guesthouse, I felt very welcomed by the hosts. The room is sparkling clean, and surprisingly quiet, thanks to its location. Everything works well inside the room, I like its big TV. Really appreciate the ice tea brought up by Mr Long's niece, and showing me around my room, she's always smiling. I was given the key to the main door as well, so there's no worry of coming back late. I requested to use its internet after returning late in the night, not knowing they have already switch it off and about to rest, but Mr Long and her niece are helpful enough to re-start and login for me, and I guess his niece is waiting patiently for me while reading her book, felt rather sorry to trouble them. Mrs Long is really a kind and soft spoken person, advising me the places I'm going, book a taxi for me, and makes me a surprise breakfast as well. Had a wonderful chat with her before leaving. I stayed for just a night here to catch up with my friend who works in HCMC, but how I wish I could stay a little longer. The Long family are really nice people and serve with more than just a smile, just like staying in my home. Would make it a point to return when I'm back in HCMC.

Dear Friends:

Are you looking for a comfortable and trusting place to stay in Saigon? Look nowhere else but Long's Guest House. Mr. and Mrs. Long provide outstanding service. Their rooms are cozy, super clean, and full of amenities. Their air-condition and fan always work. Their cable TV network is extensive. I could not believe that I was able to watch the Warren Buffet and Bill Gates Town Hall meeting at Columbia University right on CNBC network as if I had been at home in Greenwich, Connecticut, USA.

The Long's personalized and attentive service is unique and can't be matched by the standard service found at large hotel chains. It was so comforting to find a family ambience amid the hectic pace of lifestyle in all big cities. I felt like staying at my own parents' home. They were so easy to talk to. Due to my allergy to monosodium glutamate (MSG) so prevalent at restaurants, Mrs. Long offered to take me to the local Thai Binh market to shop for fresh food and cook for me. She made delicious "bi cuon" and her "nuoc mam toi ot" was out of this world. My mom and sisters in New York are great cook but I honestly have to say that Mrs. Long's traditionally prepared "nuoc mam toi ot" with real garlic and pepper crushed into a thick paste - unlike the powder garlic type that people tend to use - just had that divine taste found nowhere else. My relatives in New York now have a serious competitor...ha! I suggested Mrs. Long to create her own line of bottled "nuoc mam toi ot."

I would also like to mention the important role that her niece Ngoc has in making Long's Guest House so unique. She helps with all the house chores including cooking. In addition to helping her aunt and uncle to run this family business, she also studies nursing. Ngoc is so friendly and charming. She frequently offered to take me on her scooter to places I needed to visit.

In summary, I give a ten on a scale of 1 to 10 meaning outstanding service to all sectors of this examplary hospitality service at Long's Guest House. Go there and enjoy Saigon! The Longs were English teachers. They also know a lot about Vietnamese history and they could fill you in on the past and the present lifestyles in Vietnam. I suggest that you take Vietnamese lessons with them since the Longs have great pedagogic skills. They also have other services like airport pickup,, transportation around town and currency exchange right at their finger tips.

We stayed here on our second trip to Ho Chi Minh, after experiencing several so-so places on the first trip. We'd heard good things about this guesthouse online and made a reservation. I accidentally booked the room for 2010 instead of 2009, our plane was an hour late, we arrived at 11 PM (unexpected by the Long family) and were welcomed with open arms. Luckily there was a room available that night, and Mrs. Long even found us another wonderful room in a close-by guesthouse for the same price for the other three nights we were in Saigon. I can't imagine a better place to stay. I've traveled extensively though Asia, and this has got to be one of the cleanest and most welcoming places I've had the pleasure to encounter. It's in the backpacker area, but tucked away in a quiet alley. We were served lime tea upon our late night arrival, and given hot tea and grapefruit the next morning. Mrs. Long also provided us invaluable information on buses and places of interest in the area.

If you're coming to Saigon and want a nice, clean, friendly place to stay away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place!

Basically the guest house is run by Mr and Mrs Long, an elderly couple who are both retired English Teachers.
I emailed Mrs Long prior to arrival and asked if i could be picked up from the airport, i walk through arrivals and there is a guy stood there with my name on a big card. Into his Mercedes and within no time we were at the guest house. Located smack bang in the Backpackers district, yet down an alley so away from all the noise.

We arrived after 11pm and Mrs Long had waited up to make us hot drinks - I had my two young children with me and she was simply amazing with them - You would have thought she was their grandma, always tending to them giving them chocolate, making them drinks she was an absolute star. A real breath of fresh air.

The rooms are normal en suite and have air con, TV with loads of English speaking channels, Free WIFI. They are kept in excellent condition.
The Longs don't provide tours, but Mrs Long was more than willing to go and get you a tour - At the locals price. She wants nothing in return, no commission, nothing.
When we were out during the day i left my laptop, HD Video Camera and even my Rolex watch. All perfectly safe.

The Longs made my children and I feel exceptionally welcome, their hospitality was second to none and their guest house the best i have stayed in throughout the world.
The late night chats were great, i really can not commend the place enough. Mr and Mrs Long are two amazing individuals and it was an absolute privilege to be a guest at their lovely home.

Long's guesthouse is one of those places I'll always think back of with a smile, as it is one of those places that truly make you feel welcome and at home, even in a far away country.

Long is runned by an elderly couple and their niece. The Longs are so incredibly hospitable and friendly! Their guesthouse has only two rooms (US$ 14 a night) and is very quiet as it is situated in one of the inner alleys of Saigon's backpacker's district. This means that it is extremely close to all the action, yet provides a quiet escape to retreat to. The rooms are well equipped with double beds, aircon, wardrobe, big tv including dvd player and dvds, and they have an electronic safe. The bathrooms are small but have good showers. Room and bathroom are very clean. There is free wifi internet in the rooms and also a computer downstairs with internet. Breakfast is not included (and not served either, I think, but am not sure).

The Longs provided me with good information about the city and were always up for a friendly chat. It was so nice to talk with them and learn about Vietnamese culture. Their niece is also super friendly and always ready to help you with anything. When I felt sick to my stomach they made me a special ginger tea that helped me feel better. One thing that I found refreshing about Long Guesthouse is that here they don't try to push you to take their tours, because the guesthouse doesn't have any. In fact, Mrs. Long helped me to book a train ticket on the night train to Danang by phoning the train station and having the tickets delivered to the guesthouse, without any extra charge. I got the ticket for the same price as when I would have gone to the station myself to buy them. This shows that the Longs are genuinly friendly and honest people who are great hosts and most of all a lovely couple and girl.

I would absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend this guesthouse, unless you are somebody who loves to meet other travelers and party because this is not that kind of place. Even though I was looking forward to travel onward through Vietnam, I felt kind of sad to leave this guesthouse, it was that nice!
