Saigon Mini Hotel 5
Ranked #163 of 475 Hotels in Ho Chi Minh City
Reviewed July 31, 2011

If you wanna be at the center of the action, staying in cheaper but nonetheless clean, quieter and at least 3-star accomodations with a view you can't go wrong with Saigon Mini 5.

We got 3 deluxe twin rooms so we had a slight discount and paid 40 USD per room per night.
Anyway let's do the negative things first:
- When we were checking in, despite the fact that I had specifically requested for rooms on the 9th, 7th and 6th floor, they forgot our 9th floor booking and gave us 5th floor. They changed it immediately after I reminded them though. Something about our room key being spoilt (I think it was a lame excuse so let's move on).
- Although they said we would have 2 double beds for deluxe rooms, the room on the 9th floor had a double and a single. Not a big problem though since there were only 2 people staying anyway.
- The aircon on the 9th floor room was weak, it took some time to cool the room. The other rooms' aircons seemed fine. The other 2 rooms had fans too, while the 9th floor room didn't. So we couldn't use the fan while waiting for our room to get cooler.
- 2nd morning, all electricity went out for at least half an hour. I heard it's common in HCM though, so I can't fault the hotel as the buildings nearby all had their electricy cut as well. But it was rather unfortunate that a few of us were showering until the water turned cold and the lights went out all of a sudden.
- They could be short-staffed but they sure take their own sweet time answering emails.
I had to wait an average of 2 days for each email I send before I got any reply.
- There's wifi, but on the 9th floor, the signal is weak.

The positive stuff:
- The beds/pillows are so comfortable!
- The cityviews are lovely (especially from the 9th floor room window).
- You can't hear the traffic if you're staying the on higher floors.
- Very clean bathrooms/toilets.
- Very clean, spacious rooms.
- We had to be up very early the next day so we missed their breakfast, but the staff still went and bought us toast and coffee to takeaway. (we forgot to bring it along in our rush though, a pity)
- You can store your baggage with them until you're ready to take them. It's quite secure (compared to some places I've stayed at) as they give you a receipt for your baggages and only the staff is supposed to go into the baggage room.
- The computers on the ground floor can access facebook (if that's important).
- Location is 10 mins walk from Ben Thanh market (won't advise to buy much there, the vendors quote skyhigh prices compared to other places).

Wouldn't mind staying here again as I loved the rooms ^_^

we were staying in saigon mini hotel 3 from 24 - 27 july 2011. was there for 4 days 3 nights.
the room was ok.
the bed's not bad, but one of the pillow were not in good condition.
they provide fresh clean towels, hair shampoo, soap for shower, cotton buds, tooth brush set and they do up your room daily.
breakfast sets were limited to 4 types only and they were really just so-so.
we were in room 202, and the shower hose were not in good condition. the water were either TOO Hot or it turn COLD suddenly.

won't mind to go back to this hotel but if there were other hotel that is charging the same and provide better room then we will not hesitate to try out other hotel.

but, one thing that is good about this hotel is that, the restaurant just outside their hotel serve really good food.
their steamboats are a MUST try and their local delights were awesome.

After reading many reviews, decided on saigon mini 5 for my first trip to Vietnam.

I arranged an airport pick up, and was glad I did as finding my way by train would have been difficult, and I may have been charged way too much by taxi.

Check in was simple and efficient. The first thing to note is the incredible staff. Throughout the entire stay the staff were always available, and by the time I was leaving a few days later they felt like family rather than hotel staff.

The room was very spacious, amazing given the hotel is quite narrow (like everything in HCM city). The beds were comfortable, linen clean, the room cleaner than I was expecting.

The free breakfast in the roof top cafe was superb!

I cannot wait to return and stay with this wonderful group of people.

No frills hotel for a good price in a decent location.
We arrived at 6am on the night train but were told to come back at 1pm so we did a bit of early morning sightseeing and were able to leave our bags at the hotel.
No windows in the room but for the price not a problem. It was small but clean and shower had ok pressure and hot water. Wifi was decent.
Good budget stop off in a bar/restaurant area.

Stayed here for 3 nights in a Superiour room (29 USD per night). Rooms are not big, but clean and comfy, and the location is excellent. The staff are very courteous and can help you with pretty much everything. Beware that after powercuts, the elevator may be out of order for a while, which is a bugger if you're going up to the higher floors (there are 10).

This hotel has a great location, it is situated in the heart of a bustling district 1.
It has 24hr marts around it and great restaurants and bar's just a walk away.

The rooms were clean and nice, nothing extravagant as it is a budget hotel. The staff was friendly and there is free internet service.

Overall, a recommended hotel for for budget travelers :)

This is a modern, clean, fully functional hotel (lift, a/c, wi-fi, lobby computers) in the heart of District 1, with very pleasant staff. It is surrounded by great restaurants. I have stayed here 3 times on my trip through Vietnam which says it all. Quick tip - try to get a room in level 6 or 7 which eliminates any noise from the road below.
