Asian Ruby Luxury Hotel

My tour to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam was made more memorable with my stay at Asian Ruby 2 Hotel. The location is near all bargain areas like the market and a lot other places to eat a truly Vietnamese cuisine. I like the environment which is truly safe for tourists. I have gone to Ho Chi Minh twice and opted to stay in the same hotel. I recommend this hotel for budget travelers.

A good location within walking distance of most sites. The standard rooms are small but the deluxe ones are a better size. No real character but friendly staff. The breakfast was poor largely being the evening before's left overs. The dining room is on the top floor and there is no lift for the last floor so if you don't like stairs this is not for you. Clean and well cared for. Very good wi fi.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are tiny for two.

stayed here for 2 nites (this week)

Was upgraded to a "suite" on the first floor. Had a sitting area - with a window opening to an air-well and some plants - no view whatsoever.

Twin bedded - with a fair sized bathroom. The "half-shell looking" tub occupied 3/4 of the entire bathroom - there are no hand rails to hold onto when you step out of the table. Very hazardous for senior citizens or young children usage. So do take extra care when taking a shower.

Aircon - first nite was rattling - the second nite ....was very quiet.

The TV - has over 70 channels - great variety - from Thai, English, American, Mandarin and even Cantonese channels !!

Coffee House on the 11th floor - very bright and well laid out. There are about 10 different items (of cooked food - beans, fried rice, spring rolls, vegetables), besides the usual fruits and bread counters. The pho and cooked eggs station are good.

The coffee was not up-to-par (first day luke warm and very strong - second day steaming hot but weak). The water melons were extremely sweet.

After the 2nd morning - I only zero in on the pho station. The fried pork beehoon has a very strange odour.

Saw a huge crack on the support beam (about 3') on the landing (under the satellite dish) - and hairline cracks ..... not a very comforting sight.

The hotel room cleaners were taking their breakfast sitting on the floor in the emergency exit (just next to my rooom) on both morning. Strange.

For the price of about US$70 per nite (plus breakfast) + the centralized location ..... cannot complain la...

Stayed here with husband and two children, 7 and 3 in March 2013 for 2 nights. Very friendly and accommodating staff. No pool. Breakfast was the best display we encountered in all of Vietnam and nice view from breakfast terrace area. Staff arranged a trip to the Cu Chi Tunnels for all of us in a private car for 5 hours for only $40.

I stayed here for three nights in March 2013. I found the hotel and rooms to be clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. The WiFi work well in my room. The hotel rooms were well appointed and clean.

The central area of Saigon was a short walk away and casual and pleasant stroll would get you to the city center less than five minutes.

I'd stay here again, if I would find myself back in Saigon.

When we checked in we were offered a free upgrade to a suite, but when we went into the room, workers using a windy pick were just outside our window! the safety hook on the door was broken, and the air con was making a right racket! after we complained we were offered a reasonably comfortable room which was also a suite but the window had been removed for a brick wall !!! I must say though that the brick wall kept the room quiet and dark for sleeping. Very nice bathroom, although there was no seal around the bath, so the floor ended up soaking after we showered!!! Good location to access Saigon. Breakfast was okay, not the best quality. Great view from the two tables out on patio although the other table occupants were smoking ugh!! (not uncommon in Vietnam). Not the friendliest staff but okay. A perfectly decent hotel but nothing special.
