The receptionist tried to charge us on leaving, even after all paperwork pointed out that we had paid prior to our arrival. She was adament that agoda had not paid and this was the normal procedure, Even when shown this not to be true. this spoilt the stay in Saigon for us. the hotel can arrange tours which are reasonable priced, other negatives are the breakfast is fried egg or Jam toast, And the rooms are small and musty smelling. Overall we think the hotel is overpriced

For 30$$US a night me and my husband where really pleased about the cosyness and the friendly staff. Although the surrounding has some 'massage' spots it's very quiet inside, we had a windowless room, great for a quiet sleep, fantastic kingsize bed and a good bathroom with a wide glassframed shower.
Right opposite are some very good small vietnamese restaurants, we liked the food very much and the Saigon beer really serves the dedicated beer lover like we are.
We left an expensive leather wallet in the room with no credit cards and no cash but some important overseas member cards, we only found out after some days and we emailed them and it was found and given to the reception desk!!!!!!! so we will pick it up on return.
Walking distance to all important places and going by taxi is very cheap and reliable, everything on reach within 10 minutes by taxe.

For my recent trip to HCM city, we stayed 2 nights at this hotel. with USD32 per night for the deluxe room, it is really value for money. we were paying USD50 the night before for a 3 stars hotel on Thi Min Khai road which was 8 minutes away on foot.

City Star hotel, the room is new and with modern setup and cosy. the front desks assistants were very helpful.

we would recommend this hotel for budget travellers.

on foot, it took about 10 minutes to reach the Reunification Palace and about 15 minutes to Ben Thanh Market.

I paid $41 US per night for room 501 which was a Deluxe room with a queen size bed and a window looking out to Bui Thi Xuan Road. The decor of the room was quite nice. It was very clean and new.

There were, however, a number of frustrating factors during my stay. I would quite often come back to my hotel room and it would stink of cigarettes. After the first two days, I contacted reception and made a complaint, seeing as I requested a non-smoking room. The receptionist simply told me, "that's just how it is. People must be smoking outside".

The rooms are also INCREDIBLY noisy. Bui Thi Xuan is one of those streets that doesn't shut! At any hour of the day, you can safely say there will be LOUD noises from the street. Vietnam will always be Vietnam and that's just part of the experience but the walls and windows of the room do not filter any sound out.

The "breakfast" on offer is really not worth your time or effort. Guests staying at the City Star have to walk across to another hotel a few doors down to have breakfast there. I stayed for 4 nights but only had breakfast on the first day. There was only one item on the menu which was a chicken noodle soup.

There are SO many different hotels to choose from. You can always book a room for the first evening and walk in to all the other hotels around the area and work it out for the rest of your stay.

The City Star hotel is an ideal home away from home in Saigon. It is close to Ben Thanh markets and other smaller markets, also a wide variety of high quality restaurants.
The rooms are presented very well with all the nice touches you would expect from a room three times the price. Staff are friendly and helpful although they speak very little english.
Its been a great experience and would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I stayed at this hotel in the Mar. of 2009. The price was cheap ($30USD/night) and the room was clean. We are careful travellers and ensured our valuables are kept close to us(luckily). My wife carried her minor jewelry with her at all times. Unfortunately, we lost an Ipod Nano and a watch that we place on a table ($200USD). For the value that we lost and price, we could have stayed in a nicer hotel. Complained to front desk and was told that we could at stored items in their safe.
