“Very Affordable, and Friendly!”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

The staff at this little hotel were extremely friendly and very helpful. They didn't mind at all that we had to cancel our booking for the previous night at very late notice (the bus ride from Cambodia that was supposed to take us 6 hours took us 18!)and we were greeted so warmly with hot coffee and bananas. Rooms are affordable, if a little small, and there is free Wifi and breakfast included. While the staff are very eager to help with booking tours etc, be warned that their info is a little limited when it comes to buses. There are many different bus companies, but this hotel seems to only deal with one of them, which makes certain routes and times seemingly unavailable. If a tour offered by the hotel doesn't suit, maybe try one of the travel places on Pham Ngu Lao Street (a short walk away). Overall, a great place to stay in HCMC.

The hotel is well located, just a few meters from the main travelers area, so the street is not too noisy. The room was nice, clean, with a big balcony and great view, even of the most known town buildings. Great breakfast was served at the massive table and the same dark coloured heavy but nice looking chairs. Look at the passport size photographs, which left satisified guests on the table! There are also nice photographs on the walls, which were taken by housband of madame Cuc and are for sale. The staff were attentive and helpfull, The room and service were excellent for that price range and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: take a room with a balcony

We booked a room at Madam Cuc 127 through Booking.com. After a long trip (we came from Sihanoukville, Cambodia by bus) we arrived in the evening. The lady told us she let other people stay so we couldn't stay at this hotel because she gave our room away at people who wanted to stay one night longer. She said she would bring us to a similar hotel, with the same size room and price (Madam Cuc 64). We said that we didn't liked it because we booked 127, but when the rooms are similar we agreed to look.

When we arrived at MC 64, the room was smaller and it smelled. We looked at booking.com and saw that this room was smaller and cheaper. So we went back to 127 to say that we don't agree she puts us for the same price in a smaller and cheaper room. She said she couldn't help it and at first didn't want to compensate us. We told here that it wasn't our problem she gave our room away and we don't pay for a room which isn't comparable with the room we booked.

After some discussion, the man who could stay at our room, understood our problem. He said that the hotel needs to compensate us for the inconvience and that he would pay the difference, because he was glad he could stay. Thanks to hem, the lady compensated us. And the next day we could go in the hotel we have booked.

We started with a bad feeling, because she lied to us and tried to make it our problem.

The rooms at Madam Cuc 127 are nice and clean. Not to much noice. Breakfast is also very good.

We were 2 families travelling around Vietnam and Cambodia for a month. 4 adults and 6 children ranging in age from 3 yrs - 14 yrs. We stayed in a number of different hotels and in Vietnam. This was the most average. The feel of the hotel is tired - staff were tired (16hr days with very little time off), rooms were tired and the breakfast was tired. No one was really that bothered whether you were enjoying the food or booked on an appropriate tour. This was the only hotel we stayed at while in HCMC so I can't say for certain that you would find better for the money we paid ($35 per night) but my gut is with a little research and booking in advance ( we left it till last min and could not get into the places we had found on Tripadviser) you could do a lot better. Having said the above - the rooms were large and the Hotel was well located and clean.

My wife and I stayed here for four nights. It is well located, has clean rooms with aircon and a fan, great breakfast and very helpful staff. I would definitely stay here again. We felt comfortable and looked after.

The hotel arranged a car to pick us up from the airport to prevent us getting overcharged by local taxis. The room was lovely....clean and comfortable. We got new towels and sheets everyday. Breakfast was included in the price. It consisted of eggs (however you like them), fresh fruit, a crispy bread roll and tea/coffe/fresh juice. It was really tasty. The manager was very helpful and answered any questions we had. She also booked day trips fo us to the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta and a taxi to the train station when we were leaving. The location is ideal, just around the corner from the backpacker region but far enough that it's not noisey. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

We hated our stay at madam cuc. It was widely recommended, but we really dont know why. The staff was extremely unfriendly on arrival (we arrived at midnight after a delayed flight, and all the woman could say is "TAKE OF SHOES"). The room was relatively clean but VERY SMELLY (even so that we could not sleep) and it looked like a motel from the movies. The shower was in the middle of the tiny bathroom so that the floor would be constantly wet (and we couldnt wear our shoes, great. Breakfast was edible, nothing more. We have never met Madam Cuc, but she must be like mother theresa considering the good reviews. We do not recommend this!!
