“ok hotel but not worth the money”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

Victory hotel sounds good on paper, but doesn't really deliver. The location was good for me, because it is a 5 minute walk from my business. But it's about 20-30 minute walk from downtown and most of the activity. The facility is fairly old and looks it. You will absolutely get lost in the winding, narrow, dark hallways. And they aren't very good at keeping smokers away from non smokers, so you'll get lot's of 2nd hand smoke there.
they provide about 8 ounces of drinking water, the safe is too small for a laptop, and the room lighting is very very dim.
The free breakfast buffet is hardly worth doing.
For $40 , it would have been ok. But i paid $72.

Room Tip: Lots of morning street noise, so a higher floor is better.

A simple clean place to explore some finer parts of Saigon slightly off the path of the rowdy tourist hotspots. Located near the unification palace, war remnants museum and walking distance to much much more. Had room 405 with a balcony. Modern/basic with AC. The staff is helpful when needed and the vibe in general is that they leave you to your business. The pool is ok when available in the mornings and evenings. The breakfast buffet is typical for Vietnam with a mostly Asian spread and bits of Western touches like made to order omelettes. Most people can find something to eat. There were weddings every night, even on weekdays but we slept undisturbed. The street food and restaurant scene surrounding the hotel is pretty solid. I can't speak to the brothel comments.. I didn't get that vibe nor did I patronize their spa. If you would like a clean hotel away from the tourist laden Distract 1 the Victory Hotel is recommended. oh and they have memory foam beds...

The buffet is rubbish, they were moving tables and chair above our room all night, and early in the morning!
Running a brothel on the seventh floor! Massage spa place! Not a family hotel!
The pool is taken over by swimming lessons everyday!
Ongoing wedding every weekend .
Most of all a brothel operating on the seventh floor.

Spacious, clean rooms and a rooftop swimming pool gave a great hub for exploring the city of Ho Chi Minh. One block away from the war museum and a short walk from markets you can get a real feeling of Saigon from this hotel. Cheap local beers found in the bar, great value for money in the restaurant and friendly staff ensured I had a great time in Ho Chi Minh. I booked this hotel with dreambookers.com on a multi centre holiday and would recommend this hotel to any Vietnam Travellers.

Room Tip: From the outside I noticed some rooms had balconies, if you could request one that would be a bonus.

I booked this hotel mainly because of the pool, its location and the relatively low price (USD 45 with breakfast).

The owner is Vietnames Communist Party - so expect military uniforms on the bell boys and security. On the weekend they usally have weddings on top floor and basement restaurants - busy days.

The pool on 6th floor was crowed by kids and local party members who were happy to get free pool access (meaning they weren't hotel guests) - nothing really relaxing.

Most rooms face the busy main roads, however they are doubled glassed and very spacious with all ammenities you need in a 3* hotel.

Nice restaurant in old villa "LyClub" nearby...

OK for 1-2 nights - we used the pool area to change clothes for our long-hault flight in the late evening back to Switzerland - note: SPA/Sauna is to be paid extra...

Room Tip: ask for room to backside

i chose this hotel because it was within my price range, had a decent location and had a swimming pool. overall the location was good, service was very good. the room was clean, the toiletries provided were basic. the bed was a little hard but acceptable. the mini bar, if i remember correctly, was not very expensive. i didn't use it but it was nice to find a reasonably-priced mini bar. issues: the swimming pool was extremely crowded when i was there that i didn't even use it. secondly, the wifi broke down at one stage during the night and was only restored in the morning.

Booked this place because i was travelling with two teenagers and wanted a pool for them to cool off in........it was hard to find a place in Saigon with a Pool within the price range I wanted to pay. We paid $40US per room - which was good for Saigon. We stayed 3 days after having been in Vietnam for 3 weeks already and were leaving to go home.

Pool is good on the hot days, but like other reviewers have said it is used for lessons in the afternoon, so morning and evening are best. Definitely refreshing though and nice temprature.
Rooms are ok, (quaint) and do have a window. Air con is very good. Bed was rock hard, but have to admit had a great sleep. Go figure!?
We arrived at 6.30am off an overnight bus and they let us check in at no extra cost etc. We had booked the rooms using AGODA.

TOURS: My advise would be don't book them here. They are three times the price you would pay with any agency - best idea i think would be to just get a taxi for 30,000 VND to Pham Ngu Lao area and book something there, and enjoy the Ben Thanh market while you are there and the Backpacker vibe of that whole area. And other sites in the vacinity all within walking distance

The Victory Hotel is near lots of interesting museums and other tourist sites, so enjoy it. Worth a visit is the History museum and the temple just at the entrance to the Zoo. Reunification Palace is short walk away as is Post office and Notre Dame Cathedral. War REMNANTS museum is a must, but is unsettling and distrubing!!
Taxi's are cheap to anything you want to see and do have a drink at the Rex Hotel at dusk...its worth it.
We dined most nights in the Pham Ngu Lao area as its so cheap and those few that are in the Victory Hotel vicinity are too expensive really. (and i did not find many to be honest)
Breakfast at Victory is like other reviewers mention....very focused on asian guests as is most of the hotel. But given that breakfast is included in room rate, its ok (but just ok)
Over all I think this is a reasonable budget hotel ..... if a pool is what you want for a low price this possibly is ok for you.
