This was the last hotel that my 21yo step-daughter and I stayed in during our visit to VietNam throughout April / May 2009. The hotel itself is situated directly opposite the river, which is separated by a very busy road. This road is "full-on" during daylight hours and remains well used by trucks throughout the night, thus a front room can be a bit noisy for light sleepers, or the unaccustomed to the Vietnamese road noises. We had grown used to this noise and found our 3rd/4th floor, river view room OK and the noise at night bearable. This is probably the biggest let down of the hotel, and maybe the need for double glazing should be on the agenda, in the near future???

The hotel itself is of an old French design, and if you want modern then it ain't here. In saying that we didn't want modern and wanted to experience a bit of old-style 'charm' and that is why we booked this hotel, and that it was opposite the river.

The lobby / reception foyer was quite spacious with the elevator (rather small) at the end, staircase and souvenir kiosk to the left and, reception and restaurant entrance to the right. All quite nice, with lots of wood features etc.

Our floor opened to a small foyer of it's own, that had a settee and a statue, a housemaid station and onward to a large sized hallway that lead to our room.

Our room over looked the river and contained windows and a separate wooden shutter, however not as useful as double glazing. The room was fitted out in the same French era style, 2 x comfortable beds, table and chairs, TV, mini-bar etc (all the usuals) and the bathroom was clean and well set-out, with all the standard items and complimentaries. Overall, the room was quite spacious and served our purposes more than adequately. The only fault I thought noteworthy, was the air-conditioning set-up. It is centrally controlled and it's temperature settings cannot be changed within the rooms, only the fan speed. (This posed a problem when we had to change hurriedly to meet our tour deadline. After rushing and changing at full speed, we were quite uncomfortably hot and the need to lower the A/C temperature to enable a quick "cool down"...NOT POSSIBLE!!)

For dinner we ordered room service, which was OK, with serving sizes just over-average, but nothing special. Breakfast is a buffet, which is located in the lobby restaurant. It is a standard style breakfast (similar throughout VietNam) with the typical Omelette Bar. Nothing to rave on about, nor was there anything to complain about.

In summary, the hotel was nice / OK and seemed to be worth the money we paid, the hotel staff seemed OK as too the service and cleanliness. It served it's purpose of a sleep / store luggage + breakfast hotel, as we were fairly rushed during this leg of the trip - intention to return 2010 to explore more of HCM. Not sure whether I would stay here again, by choice, but if it were one of the only options I wouldn't be disappointed.

the hotel is well located but is not good value otherwise-breakfast OK but variable, rooms generally OK and reasonable size, but shower water trickles out, few frills, internet access very slow and computers crash a lot, staff helpful generally, hotel needs upgrade and has an air of decay-4th floor seemed half shut down, AC not the best and 2 mornings of 5 had a power shutdown with a noisy generator coming on and AC going off -at 5am!
