We are a family of a 10-year old kid. I like historic building and intentionally chose Riverside Hotel Saigon for the fact that it is with the charm of an old French building. Though some comments here are not so good, we were impressed by the staff there. Our special request of a superior room with window was addressed. Very good value for money. The beds are very comfortable, the room is clean and the maintenance of the room is really acceptable (out of my expectation quite good in terms of the old age of the hotel). The buffet breakfast is really nice/enough for such a room rate. They offers freshly-made eggs and you can order any style of eggs.....only one area for improvement is that if the congee/soup could be kept hot near 9:00am (supposed to be the end time of breakfast).

If you have plan to travel to Vung Tau, a very strategic location as the pier is just opposite to the hotel. This is the main reason why I chose this hotel especially we are travelling with a kid, and we can go to the pier in the morning leisurely by walking on the day we went to Vung Tau.

Room tip: If you are budget traveller, then choose superior room, but state your special request of a room with a window overlooking the next building.

2nd hotel we stayed in and wish we stayed at first hotel.
The riverside was ok but is getting far to dated and rooms were very boring and old.
Staff were ok and breakfast was ok without being spectacular.
Seems to be very popular with Chinese businessman to stay and not really the place for a family on holiday.
The hotel is in good spot and the staff do a good job but I do advise if you are an Aussie family on holiday look elsewhere, but saying all that thanks to the staff for making our stay bareable.

We only stayed here one night, we were in transit, the location was excellent right on the Mekong river, close to restaurants.
The room was very spacious, with good bed and clean bathroom and an extra lounge area, very good facilities. Old but it's the charming character we like.
The hotel picked us up from the airport, and everything ran on time, they delivered us back to the airport the next morning, a great service.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Pre arrival email contact was also excellent.
Highly recommended for the price.

This place had nice big rooms and was in a great location just on the river. We easily walked to and from the markets and restaurants and when we were in a hurry the doorman got us a taxi quickly and easily. Only thing I would say bad is that the airport pick up is quite pricey. But we were happy to pay it just for the convenience.

We stayed at Riverside Hotel Saigon during our Vietnam trip in April 2011. The best thing the hotel possess is its location; right on the other side of River Saigon. A point from where Touristic water transport and local water transport are both available. You can enjoy both.
Where it lacks is the cordial service from the support staff. If it can work on that, Riverside has the potential to become a Value for money.

Breakfast option was decent but nothing great.

Room tip: Look for a river-side room.
