Description: KOTO stands for "Know one, teach one." KOTO is one of the most unique experiences in Vietnam for travelers who can enjoy a meal at a real working vocational training restaurant operated by one of the leading non-profit social enterprises in Vietnam. KOTO is a unique not-for-profit social enterprise that started in 1999 in Hanoi. The program targets at-risk and disadvantaged youth—aged 16 to 22—with a 24-month-long training program in vocational hospitality, life skills and English. KOTO’s Vision Positive permanent change for at-risk and disadvantaged youth through the transformative power of social enterprise. KOTO’s Mission We believe at-risk and disadvantaged youth should have access to a holistic program that provides career training and life skills in a nurturing environment, where each builds self confidence and exercises their right to live a life of dignity.

The Koto Restaurant is very close to my house and I've been there a couple of times with friends or by myself. The food is very tasty and they have a choice of yummy cakes and drinks. The staff is very attentive, friendly and well trained. The groundfloor is designed as a actual restaurant while the second floor is a lounge area. It is a bit pricy though but for a good reason: disadvanteged young people learn how to serve and deal with clients to have a opportunities in the future, the money earned in the restaurant goes back in the training programm.

The best meals in our 3 weeks in Vietnam. Boxhill Tafe College Melbourne need to be congratulated in their support of the restaurant in giving under privileged kids the opportunity for life changing careers. Were disappointed that we did not have enough time to return for another meal this trip.

A very recommended place to have lunch at during your Hanoi trip. KOTO stands for “Know One, Teach One”. KOTO’s founder, Jimmy Pham, a Vietnamese-Australian opened years ago a hospitality industry training center in Hanoi. It created a place and an opportunity for disadvantaged youth to learn a trade. Koto restaurant seems friendly and offers good food. I give them a four star rating for the combined good cause and the establishment itself.

We went because a close friend told us about this place, the good thing is that is right next to the Temple of Literature, so after the visit to the Temple you can go there and have a nice Lunch. The size of the plates are a bit small but the taste is great and the place is very beautiful.

This is an awesome example of a really successful social enterprise where the workers are recruited from 'disadvantage backgrounds' by the founder. The food, service and ambience here are amazing and a credit to the owner/founders. Totally deserves all the accolades and positive reviews. The presentation was a delight too and the food tasted every bit as good as it looked, Best of all it didn't break the bank - make it a must do if you are planning a trip to Hanoi.
