“Excellent Service, Comfortable Beds, Great Breakfast”
Reviewed January 19, 2011

We loved this hotel! We booked it based on TA reviews and it exceeded our expectations. The staff was incredibly friendly and eager to please. We were able to check in at 9am (after an overnight train trip this was wonderful) and the rooms were large, clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. The beds were the best of our trip in Vietnam (others were very hard). The family room has a king bed and a double, more than enough room for our family of 4. The room was huge with lots of room for luggage and gear for 4 people. The laptop supplied in the room was a great touch as well. (Before we could check in the Travel Desk staff let us use their laptops in the lobby, printed documents for us, made dinner reservations, etc).

The nicest touches were that one of the front desk staff helped me to book movie tickets on line for the big cinema in Hanoi (Megastar) and as I did not have an account she used hers to book the tickets and then also lent me her national ID card in order to pick up the tickets at the cinema.

Then, my 9 year old daughter lost an earring (brand new for xmas) and the same front desk employee managed to find the missing earring in the sheets that had been stripped off the bed and returned it to us. (All this by cell phone while we were on our way to Halong Bay).

Breakfast was abundant, eggs cooked to order, coffee anyway you like, fresh fruit and juices, croissant.

We loved our stay and for $60 for a double and $120 for a family room with 4 pax, it was a great deal. Would definitely go back!

We spent 2 nights at this hotel with a trip to Halong Bay in between the two nights. I can't fault this hotel. I booked directly with them and all communication was efficient. They even checked if our visa documentation was in order, something we had almost forgotten to arrange. They offered to store our luggage while we were in Halong Bay.

We booked a superior double room and a junior suite. The superior room is on the smaller side but not uncomfortably small. These rooms don't have windows that look out on the street, something the hotel confirmed with us during the booking. The room looks out to a 'decorated' wall and it didn't feel dark at all. The suite was quite spacious, it had a little terrace that opened out onto the street. It has a seriously antique loo and basin. Both rooms have proper showers. The tiles for the shower in the superior room were quite slippery as they used the same wall tiles on the floor. The pleasant surprise in the suite was a bottle of good wine and flowers and the standard fruit when we returned from Halong Bay.

The front desk organized a city tour for us. They all speak good English and really go out of their way to assist. We enjoyed the breakfast, they have a good spread and a la carte menu. The service was extremely efficient. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

my family and i spent 4 nights here, over christmas and we had an enjoyable stay. from the time i emailed them to when we arrive, the service was prompt and friendly. we had a family suite which though was not very large, was adequate for us as it had 1 king-sized and 1 queen-sized bed.
breakfast spread at the hotel was alright with a hot meal cooked to order. the location is really conducuve for walking. armed with a map that was given to us, we walked and walked around.
we made arrangements through the hotel for our day trips and also dinners. they were very efficient and prompt in getting these bookings done for us.
only hiccup was on the day that we checked-out which was at 6 am, the breakfast buffet was not ready yet and the person at the desk had promised us a packed breakfast of sandwiches which we would have welcomed, but unfortunately the pack never came and in my haste, i forgot to ask for it! not their fault entirely as i too forgot to remind them. all in all, it was an enjoyable stay for us.

I have stayed at other Elegance hotels (which are all excellent) but this one is extra special for the excellent customer service.

The rooms and location:
The rooms themselves are a good size, with a decent size bathroom. The breakfast is part service with a western/VN menu you can order from with a side buffet for extra bacon, bread, juices, etc. The rooms are clean, come with a TV and computer though the computer is painfully old (original Pentiums practically). Wifi works great and is abundant.

Location is off the main Hang Bong street. Right up the street 5 minutes is the Hoan Kim Lake. About a couple of short blocks up and over are restaurants, etc. I find the location is great because it is near everything but not directly in the chaos and hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter.

Let me get to the outstanding 5 star service.
After a 18 hour flight, they arranged car pickup service. As soon as we arrived at the hotel, the manager was out in the street, grabbing our things, helping us in. Once at the hotel, they sat up down with hot tea and towels, and let us take it easy. The manager came by with a map of the Old Quarter and helpfully oriented us to the city while a porter took up our bags. After 20 hours of transit and being cracked out, I can't tell you how great this hospitality is.

We arrived in VN with no plans for 2 weeks, only 2 nights at the Sapphire. Thu(?), the travel woman helped us plan what we wanted to do and arranged the entire two weeks! This included hotels in other cities within budget, 4 star, in prime locations, airport transfers, Halong Bay trip and air flights to multiple locations. They did not charge any overhead for the planning and the prices were very reasonable. More importantly, the trip logistics went without a hitch from flight, transfer to hotel. And she also called from time to time to make sure we were happy with the selections and have experienced no problems. I thought this was an amazing service - Hanoi has travel shops but they are really across the board in price and service and you're never sure if they are legit.

Everyone from the guy who opens the door to the breakfast staff to the travel ladies to the management have gone above and beyond professionally in making sure we are happy, but not only that, they have such warm caring personalities that really elevate the experience. When I came back to the hotel at the end of the trip to thank them for the travel planning, they came out and greeted me like an old friend. It set a really good tone for our stay here in Vietnam and we did not experience this level of hospitality anywhere else.

A NOTE ABOUT WINDOWS
I've read many reviews commenting on the lack of views/windows but keep in mind that most buildings in Vietnam are built like long tubes or shoeboxes with windows often facing another building's wall. I stayed in two places in Hanoi and also HCMC, there was no real view in any of the places. Not so much a flaw in the hotel, but how places in VN are designed. Keep in mind that you don't have too much choice in this matter.

My girlfriend and I recently stayed a night at Hanoi Elegance Sapphire, and it was simply amazing! Super clean rooms, great bed, wonderful bathroom and shower, plus a computer in the room! The breakfast was amazing as well, with tons of great fruit, juices, coffee, staples, and even an 'a la carte' menu--all included in the room rate. The best thing, though, was the service--everyone was super-helpful, super-professional, and went out of their way to help us find things, book things, and be comfortable. After we stayed our one night there, we left for a Ha Long Bay cruise; we then returned to Hanoi for a few hours before leaving on a night train for Sa Pa. The staff basically insisted that we come back to the hotel to shower and refresh--all at no charge! This hotel was one of our favorite things about Hanoi, and we highly recommend staying there if you're planning a visit.

I stayed here for a few nights before my cruise to Halong Bay. I must say, they really took great care of us at this hotel! I booked the cruise to Halong Bay through the hotel (Paradise Cruises) and we were given the best room on the boat with a 2 person jacuzzi in the room! The breakfast was really great (the coffee my favorite). The room was good, but the downside was there were no windows in the room. And it took some getting used to the ac remote! It was a good area too. Not too touristy. After Halong Bay, they did not have any availability for us to stay there another night on our return, so they put us in another Hanoi Elegance hotel (4) and we had a room with a balcony! We really enjoyed our stay with this chain. As always, we are treated very well in Vietnam.

We had a great stay here. For the price, it's not the most amazing hotel I have stayed in whilst in SEA, however the rooms were large, modern and clean. there was plenty of hot water, and the staff were incredibly helpful. Overall, can't fault it! Would stay again.
