“Another Fantastic Stay”
Reviewed September 1, 2011

Our family of four stayed here for 4 nights in late July........my husband and I had stayed here in 2009 and were impressed with the service so had no hesitation booking with them again on our second trip to Vietnam (this time with our 2 kids aged 16 & 10).

The service was once again outstanding. The manager Mr Phong recognised us immediately from our previous stay and made us and our kids feel very welcome. My son wasn't feeling very well and they went to great efforts to make sure he was comfortable. All of the staff are fantastic; very friendly and they all went out of their way to make our experience with them a memorable one.

We stayed in the family room this time, which was large enough for the 4 of us and had the added bonus of a balcony. Once again, the rooms were spotless and very comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast each morning and the location of the hotel is great; we walked pretty much everywhere and with the map provided by the hotel, were easily able to find our way around.

I took advantage of the La Siesta Spa which is at the Hanoi Elegance Diamond Hotel and had the Oriental Magic package and believe me, it was magic. This package included a free taxi ride there and back which was much apperciated; the experience itself was wonderful - 2.5 hours of pure relaxation. I highly recommend it.

The kids loved the hotel and the staff were so great to them. Mr Phong also helped us box up some stuff we had bought (too much shopping!!) which we posted back to Australia (it arrived home before we did, so a good experience with the postal service in Vietnam!!)

Overall, I highly recommend a stay at the Hanoi Elegance Sapphire. It was certainly the best hotel we stayed at in Vietnam but it is the staff who helped make it a holiday to remember. Beautiful people and I hope that we have the opportunity to visit them again; sooner rather than later!

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Elegance Sapphire and we absolutely loved it. It's set in the old quarter of Hanoi.

The hotel has an unassuming entrance, much like all the other buildings in the quarter. But inside it's warm and comfortable. The staff is one of the best we've come across especially the hotel manager whose name I have unfortunately now forgotten. He went out of the way to help us retrieve our camera from the tour company we had used to go to Halong Bay.

The rooms are not large, but quite comfortable. And the breakfast spread is more than enough, especially considering how much you end up eating elsewhere since Vietnamese food is so delicious.

The hotel rates were a steal! They have 3-4 other properties in the old quarter all of which have also received great reviews before on this site,

Fantastic, fantastic little hotel and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an affordable and comfortable stay in Hanoi.

I travelled with my sister on a whirlwind trip of Vietnam for 2 weeks.

We actually tried to book one of the other Elegance Hotels but as they were full they recommended the Hanoi Elegance Sapphire Hotel. This review will have 2 parts:

Part 1: We booked 2 nights to stay here. The staff are wonderful...well except maybe the manager whom we found a bit smarmy but I get to that in Part 2....the concierge and reception knew us and had our room key before we even said hello! We had a free drink on arrival and were shown to our room and fussed over. The rooms are modern and extremely clean. The view is of a brick wall but when staying in Vietnam where its noisy all hours of the day this is great! The best thing about the room is the laptop and free internet which made booking our onwards travel easy. Compared to other hotels in the world of much much lesser quality the rates are a bargain. And includes breakfast where you can get the BEST banana crepes you will ever eat anywhere!! The location is perfect, right in the centre of the Old Quarter and they give you a good quality map with helpful sites and restaurants, much better than the photocopies we saw tourists hunched over! The greatest thing the hotel did for us was after we had checked out for a night for Halong Bay, on our return at 4pm we had 4 hours to wait to catch the train to Sapa, they not only looked after our packs for us they let us use their bathroom facilities, what service even though we weren't staying with them that night! We had such a wonderful stay and had such great appreciation for their sevice that we wanted to book in for a 1 night stay after we returned from Sapa....

Part 2: During our stay I saw reception about a room for our return night in a few days time. She said they were full but what put us on the waitlist. On departure the manager stated not to worry he would find us a room and would see us in a few days. When we arrived on the train early morning from Sapa we waited until the hotel opened at 6am and we went to check in and leave our bags until the room was ready. The receptionist didn't have a booking and said we were only on the waitlist. The manager came over and said sorry we are full but I'll find you a room at another Elegance Hotel. As I was talking to him, my sister peeked at the waitlist and noted we were 14th on the list, so clearly he lied about the chance of getting a room. We waited 20 minutes for the manager to come back and when he did he said the other Elegance Hotels were booked. By this time we were quite frankly tired and very annoyed. We would simply have made other accommodation arrangements if they had just told us when I had asked the few days earlier if they had a room available. We used their wifi and found a hotel around the corner. This was the only blip on an otherwise brilliant stay!
The moral of the story? Get your booking in writing.

tomasSpain, Manager at Hanoi City Palace Hotel, responded to this review, September 7, 2011
On behalf of Hanoi Elegance Sapphire, thank you very much for your stay at our hotel. Also, thank you for taking the time to post comments. I am delighted to learn that you both had a good time at our hotel and that you liked our rooms, our buffet breakfast and over all that you found our staff always friendly, helpful and efficient. Meanwhile, I feel deeply pitiful and concerned about your negative comment regarding the day you was back from Sapa which I believe was partly because of the insufficient communication between us.

First of all, it is claimed that our goal is always to make every guests a memorable and pleasant stay, we have tried our best to accommodate you in every single needs. It is the reason why even we had been fully booked for weeks we still kept you in fact on top of our waiting list (not the 14th as you and your sister might have thought. Frankly speaking, for a 18-room hotel as ours regardless how popular we can be, having 14 waitlists a day is somehow exaggerated) and tried though not enough to find a vacancy room for you. On the day you was back from Sapa, I was actually not on duty, however, your case was still well noted. The manager mentioned in your comment, he was our morning receptionist, he did try to call to several hotels to check the availability and sooner or later would manage to get a room for you. Had we known earlier that you would want a room not only that night but right after being back from Sapa, we would have advised you to keep the room one previous night in advance to secure your checking in at 6.00 am since the standard check in time for any hotels is 14.00. (Lastly you were so lucky when you arrived at another hotel and had a room immediately which I believed because this room was vacancy from the night before)
Anyway, we feel very sorry for the unpleasant experience you may have had in our hotel on your recent stay. Rest assured that we are continually improving our facilities and committed to giving you the kind of service which exceeds your need and expectation.
Thank you for your understanding. We remain available for any further clarifications. Look forward to the next chance of being at your serve.

WOW!!!!! This hotel is simply the best!!!!! The staff is so very courteous, and they go out of their way to make you feel special. If you are going to Hanoi, try your hardest to stay here. They accommodate for trips to Ha Long Bay, Sapa, etc. This our second visit and will certainly not be our last. They remembered us from our previous visit us and greeted us with smiles and made us feel like family. Hanoi is bustling and alive, and this hotel is an oasis for the traveler. Top top notch!!!!!!

Stayed at Elegance Saphire and a couple of other hotels in their chain in the near vicinity. While far from a luxury hotel with 5-star facilities, the chain maintains a high quality standard via cleanliness and highly attentive staff. The convenient location and affordable price seal the deal. Highly recommended to those who want a simple, convenient, reasonably-priced and friendly hotel to sleep & shower. Not for those expecting a luxury experience where the hotel itself is a destination in its own right.

We absolutely loved this hotel - it was our first stop on our two week visit to Vietnam.

We recieved a lovely welcome with cold flannels and banana smooties being presented to us in the lobby while the staff checked us in.

We were shown to our rooms which were immaculate. There is absolutely no view from the window (unless you count the wall of the next hotel)! but it really didnt matter in the slightest. Hanoi is busy and frantic and packed full of stuff to do so we werent planning to spend much time in the room other than sleeping! The staff made a great fuss of the fact we were celebrating our Silver Wedding anniversary - there were roses in the room and a complimentary bottle of wine and an iced cake for us. All really very lovely.

Breakfast consists of a small buffet for fruit juices, etc and then everything else is cooked and served to you at the table - superb. The level of service was very high - in fact my son was amazed when, having popped some bread in the toaster, the waitress asked him to sit down and she would bring the toast to him when it popped up!

The reception staff were unfailingly cheerful and friendly and very eager to help and advise.

The hotel is situated along a very busy street (but they all are in Hanoi) just about 5 minutes walk to the central roundabout island and lake. Its in a great spot.

Dont be tempted to eat in a 'normal' restaurant - on our first night we went to a little place that looked like a transport cafe and had wonderful beef noodle soup (1 US$ each) and our second night we ate at wonderful street restaurant sitting on little plastic chairs practically in the gutter! It was amazing - probably the best meal we had in Vietnam (£8 for four of us including beer!) - so exciting.

Hanoi is a wonderful place - I loved every single minute and would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this great hotel in this great town.
