“Tasty food, but poor experience”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

It seems this restaurant are relying on their good reputation with Tripadvisor/Lonely Planet.

They specialise in just one dish - there's no menu except for drinks and prices were ridiculous for a local restaurant - 170k per person. Fish was pre-cooked. Staff were disinterested and service poor.

Food undoubtedly tasty but my advice is to find somewhere else that serves this speciality where they actually care about customers.

“Authentic cuisine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

We were the only non Vietnamese in there for lunch one day. They only serve one dish - fried monk fish in a pan with veggies and rice. Great experience, reasonably priced and delicious. This restaurant has been serving the same dish for over 100 years. An institution here in Hanoi so worth checking out.

“Overpriced but tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2013

it costs 170.000 per person and the portion you get is very small. However it was very testy and possibly best meal we had in Hanoi anyway.

“Only one dish”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013

They served only one dish for VND 170,000/pax in a very old restaurant in Cha Ca street. Restaurant staffs do not speak English which does not matter since they are serving only one dish. Food is over-rated and pricey in my opinion. The waitress actually help in cooking the dish for tourist (local has to DIY).

BEWARE: Because they are so famous, there are numerous 'copy cat' Cha Ca Va Long (variant with misspelled shop name who claimed to be the original shop). Please check the shop address to ensure you walk to the genuine shop.

“Times are a changing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 25, 2013

Five years ago Lonely Planet listed this place as a hot coals fish BBQ for 70,000 dong...times have changed! Now it's 190,000 dong, electric cook plates and absolutely no atmosphere. The fish was tasty but precooked so we were just reheating it at the table. A real disappointment.
