We heard about this restaurant from And Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre Foods and wanted to try it. I have to say this restaurant is no longer worthy of all the hypes and publicity. No longer authentic and the food is terrible, service is so bad that we didn't end up giving them tips at all. It was pricey for eating fish that was dried. The restaurant recycled their vermicilli and passed it on to the next table. We will never recommend this restaurant to any one els.

Actually it's cheap river fish prepared out of sight (perhaps that's best!) re-fried on a butane stove at your table with a few bits and bobs thrown in (fish sauce, peanuts, chillis, coriander and sweet onion in vinegar) It's then charged out at restaurant prices. Don't expect anything much it's a VERY POOR experience albeit the foods edible. Poor value for money and you can eat much better food on the street for around 10% of the price. family owned and run with complete indifference.

Each time we went to Hanoi, we ate at Cha Ca La Vong. I have to say this restaurant is no longer worthy of all the hypes and publicity. No longer authentic and the food is terrible, service is so bad, and the atmosphere is like a fast-food place. This time, they have a propane-stove instead of charcoal stove. The fish is not fresh, the dill is soaked with oil, and the peanuts are stale and oily. The place is filthy with trash all over the floor. For VND$170,000 /pp without drinks, this place is more than four time the cost of an average meal in Hanoi.
Even though the place is for tourists, most servers cannot speak English. I witnessed a rude server asking (gestures) a couple next to us to leave as they wanted to order beers and only the wife ordered foods.
We do not plan to come back to Cha Ca La Vong next time and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Authentic, fresh, totally different to anything you will find elsewhere. A trip to Hanoi would not complete without it!

If you want to pay a price for a 'cultural' experience, it would be a hefty price. In total we paid 500k+ VD for two pax (including drinks). I wasn't exactly satisfied with the entire meal as the pieces of fish (considered to be the focus) provided were lil and they were slushed with frying oil. I guess it's a family business so please do not expect good service at all.

This place is certainly too hyped up.
