We ventured here late enough one evening as we were walking around the streets taking in the sights. We didn't have a booking but got seated right away.

The menu isn't very Vietnamese but all the dishes seem to have a lot of thought put into them.

We ordered the pigeon and lamb. Both very delicious and my girlfriend particularly enjoyed the pigeon.

By Hanoi/Vietnam prices it is very expensive but for Western prices it is reasonable enough.

The staff were helpful and efficient.

Would definitely recommend for a special romantic meal while in Hanoi.

Interesting to see just how polarised the views are on this restaurant. When I read the menu and saw how ambitious the creations were I had my doubts whether the very unusual combinations could work, but hoped to be pleasantly surprised. Sadly, I soon realised the menu was pure pretentiousness and audacity. The food was very nicely presented but just didn't work. Average quality of ingredients and below average taste.

The setting is so beautiful that you desperately want the food to be outstanding. If it wa,s it would be a top top restaurant, but there really is an Emperors New Clothes Complex going on here. Amuse bouche - awful, scallop carpaccio - drowned in weird flavours, rabbit stew - bland, steak - decidedly average. I could go on. Nail in the coffin was the cheese plate with tasteless old Parmesan.

Service was good but not spectacular. The Manager did not appreciate me pointing out that at least one of the dishes did not match the menu.

In summary - if you'just want to dine in a beautiful setting give it a go. If you appreciate good food - avoid like the plague.

We looked for the restaurant based on Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. The first thing you notice is how quiet is inside after coming in from the Old Quarter streets. The restaurant is very close to the Thang Water Puppet Theatre.
The atmosphere is great, they kept a number of the original fixtures such as the old style lamps on the walls of the first floor. They have both in door and outdoor seating (in an enclosed courtyard).
The food was beautifully presented (see attached picture of the vegetable ravioli) and tasty. It is a mixture of Western and Oriental flavors with some innovative combinations. We had the "Fruit and vegetable gazpacho" which was very fresh, the "Scallops carpaccio" - here I wished the dressing had more flavor but the presentation was great, the "Vegetarian ravioli" - good, again missing a stronger flavor to my taste, the Australian imported steak - nicely done, the "Saucepan of sea food" and the "King prawns" (really big and tasty). For deserts we tried the "Chocolate truffle fritters" - absolutely great and one other (don't remember the name) which came with a refreshing tomato ice cream.
The prices are higher than we expected based on the reviews but still OK. The wine is prices at 50 USD and up which adds quite a lot to the bill.
All in all a very nice experience.

Same as the other reviewers, we found that this restaurant was very pretty and had a lovely ambiance.

We walked there personally at 4.30pm to make a reservation for dinner at 6.30pm. We asked to sit outside in the pretty courtyard and were told that it was no problem, we could sit anywhere we liked as the restaurant wasn't busy that night.

When we returned punctually at 6.30pm, we were given a table right next to their reception counter! It wasn't actually in their actual courtyard, but was kind of in the entrance foyer. When we asked for a table within the courtyard area, we were told that it was all full/reserved! This was disappointing and we did not enjoy sitting next to the reception counter as people streamed in all evening asking for and waiting for a table.

The food was alright -- some dishes were great, and some were just average. The wine we were recommended was very good -- the highlight of our meal at the Green Tangerine.

They have a fixed menu for lunch, which they serve until 4, where you can pick 2 out of starter, main and dessert. Very imaginative and creative menu, more French than Vietnamese. Enjoyed the food and the outdoor garden setting. They offered a complimentary cocktail with our meal. Not inexpensive, but a good value
