Lovely ambience with plenty of foreigners. We went for lunch and the set lunch menu for 2 courses were a bit more than 200,000 vnd (around $10) which is very reasonable. My main disk were duck with duck mashed potato which was yummy and the creme brule were marvelous. However the beef steak that we choose a la carte were average, not so special. Overall, I love this place for the price/ quality of foods and ambience.

On the final day of our trip we arranged for lunch at Green Tangerine. Located in the Old Quarter, amongst the budget style hotels. A couple of minutes walk to the Water Puppet Theatre and the lake. Like all buildings in Hanoi, the width is deceiving. It gives one the impression that inside is rather compact, but with Green Tangerine, it has a courtyard area where you could sit weather permitting to enjoy your meal or you could choose to enter inside, there is also further seating upstairs. The decor is delightful and the service is delivered in a pleasant gentle manner. We throughly enjoyed our three course set lunch. The presentation was top notch, the dishes packed with flavour and trying out some interesting new ideas. The set lunch was reasonably priced in my opinion although for Hanoi, it could be deemed expensive. Anyways, it was a great memorable moment and a highlight of our stay in Hanoi.

Plenty of praise for this restaurant here - and all of it well deserved. Lovely venue/ambience. Excellent service. But most of all, very well thought out and unusual food: not unusual in the sense of weird, rather in the sense of simply thinking out of the box. Scallop carpaccio served on what is almost a marquetry; pigeon marinated in coffee and cacao lending the sweetness of the bird a refreshing bitterness similar to endive (chicory/witlof). Book - deservedly fills up quickly.

Heard from many that this restaurant serves good food despite the th high price it charges. In my opinion it is expected due to the good location it is in and the presence of loads of tourists.

U need to make reservations for this place which we did but they were still closed for chinese new year. Then following day while we were in the vicinity we decided to try our luck and walked in.

What happened then shocked us. We were promptly told there is no space. We were then told to leave immediately as they were busy. The captain whom we spoke to was not busy. He was merely standing there.

The shock was the way the captain said it and his attitude. It was like he was saying "shoo shoo, get out". What a real snob! One would not expect such a high charging to have such an attitude.

The Green Tangerine is located in an old French colonial house in the old town with a narrow garden at the entry. One may eat at one of the few tables in the garden or inside. They have an extensive wine cellar and we had an '08 Cote d' Rhone with a meal that was a creative French approach to Vietnamese cuisine. Our two entrees were duck breast and salmon fillet and were nicely cooked. We consider the meal expensive compared with other similar restaurants in Hanoi.
