“Very, very disappointing”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

I'm not sure what happened tonight! We had read the reviews and spoken to friends who loved it. We decided to eat at Green Tangerine as our special family Christmas gathering in Hanoi.

Did we go on the chefs night off? Our meal was very, very ordinary. We are a group of 8 who enjoy good food and wine, one couple own and operate their own restaurant in Sydney. We found the meals too technical and pretentious, with the execution of the food very mediocre. Why not explain that a French restaurant with "seafood bouillabaisse" on the menu, was actually going to be a plate of cold seafood on a bed of watermelon flavoured couscous!! Or the lamb cutlet served with "surprise balls" would be coffee flavoured icy things! Or the Australian steak served with an egg white mass on top of the patato bake. Just way too weird!!

The wine list was extensive.

The setting, with a Christmas tree and Christmas carols really pleasant.

Having booked this restaurant some 3 months earlier via email, we called to push our reservation back 30 minutes and were told they did not have our reservation and they could only seat us on two separate tables. Fortunately we had a printout of our booking which they were then able to honour.

Not sure what happenened to the food tonight - it was not great at all.

“Excellent but highly over priced”
Reviewed December 25, 2012 via mobile

Great place, great atmosphere (you don't feel you are in busy Hanoi) with good food.

Only downside is it is OVERPRICED considering its in Hanoi and not within Sofitel Metropole. We had 2 courses dinner (without drinks) and it costed $1.8M.

Won't go back there are ALOT better options.

“Excellent French cuisine and sterling service”
Reviewed December 24, 2012 via mobile

My boyfriend and I visited on Christmas Eve for dinner, without a reservation. The service from start to finish was exceptional, with French and English speaking waiters. We ordered the bacon flowers and 3 flavor soup to start - both we're delicious and very creatively done! Our mains of duck breast and lamb rack were both extremely generous in portion (unusual for a French fine dining restaurant we thought!). We finished with the tasting plate of dessert which featured a wonderful creme brûlée, amongst other creative pastries.
Including our drinks, we paid just under 2mil VND.

Great value for money and worth the expense!

Thank Maryttan

“Good food in tranquil courtyard”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

The location of this restaurant is fantastic, right in the heart of the old quarter. More impressively, the courtyard off the street where you dine is a quiet and peaceful and a welcome respite from the chaos of the street. The food is also well done and the menu is varied and adventurous.
