Based on the Tripadvisor reviews, we went here on our second day in Hanoi. It's a great Indian restaurant. We ordered 3 dishes from the Northern Indian Vegetarian section and enjoyed them all. Excellent food, wonderful spices, friendly staff. We had hoped to try the competition, Namaste, because it had more reviews and a higher ranking, but it was closed for Tet. In the end, we were glad we got to Khazaana and can't imagine Namaste is any better.
But after another day or two in the country, we noticed something odd about the Tripadvisor-ranked restaurants in Hanoi: there is only a handful of Vietnamese restaurants in the top 15. What's that about?

We ate here the other night on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. It was a pleasant surprise to find such wonderful Indian cuisine in the Hoam Kiem Lake district. We had Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, plain and garlic naan and aloo gobi. Each meal comes with three condiments (lime pickle, tamarind sauce and I think it was a coriander sauce). Everything was tasty, with just the right amount of spice---not too hot, not too bland and the fact that the restaurant is halal is an added bonus. The whole meal (for 3), with beer was under $40. Initially, I was going to order a glass of wine but the only wine on the list was a house wine at about $8, while a bottle of wine was showing at $30. Maybe I read this incorrectly because it seemed extraordinarily high given the prices on the menu for food and beer so maybe I misread it. In any event, the very excellent Hanoi beer was a much better choice to go with the meal.

The reason I am giving this review v. good and not excellent is because I felt that the lack of wine choices and the price for what was listed combined with the dinginess of the unisex toilet need to be addressed.

On the plus side, the manager/owner was extremely welcoming and helpful, without being over the top.

Would recommend highly. If you don't drink the wine, it is excellent value.

Three nights ago my girlfriend and i dined here after tossing up between namaste, deciding to give the underdog a shot. Almost instantly after being seated we regretted our decision.

We, both being eager for some good Indian, decided to head out early (around 6) which made us the only patrons in the restaurant yet somehow the staff still managed to ignore us. Then they seated another table and were prompt taking their orders.

Eventually we got served after waving the waitress over. Our meals came out in a reasonable time but actually went to the other table of customers in the restaurant. It wasn't until our nann bread was touched and food smelt by these individuals that another wait staff corrected the situation. Although its not their fault the other customers imposed on our meals the situation shouldn't have arisen at all.

Not wanting to be fussy we ate our pre-touched nann bread, both happy with our meals until i found a large piece of plastic in my butter chicken. At this point i requested it be replaced along with the nanns. It was dealt to but no explanation or real apology followed. This was inexcusable and highly unprofessional. For the prices here i expected a lot more. Although relative to prices back home its great value there are basics that need to be upheld that just went ignored here.

Stick to Namaste- there is a reason that Khazana is ranked below them.

Dear Brosi,

Thanks for your email and contents, i read your email very carefully and found some issue what i would like to address.
You mentioned to find a piece of plastic in the butter chicken, so first of all, i would like to accept mistake from our side and would like to apologies, and take you in belief that we can control this in future. Actually we import Halal Chicken which comes in plastic bags and sometimes, while unpacking or cutting in pieces, a very small piece gets left out. So the similar thing happened here.

About the prices i would say, you pay for what you eat, and anyone can't expect the prices of two places to be similar, moreover the price depends on the cost prepare the food, we import almost 95% provisions from India which is costly and food is prepared by Indian cooks who have been brought from hotels like Marriott or Sheraton so spending a few cents more for quality food should not make anyone feel uncomfortable.

Thanks & Regards
Kaustubh Mani Trivedi

Khazana is a nice restaurant and I would say a 5 star restaurant with their halal foods. Fortunately, there is Khazana in Hanoi failing which we might eat other meals. Their foods and service is wonderful. I would advise people to go there and taste their foods.
