We stayed here for three nights and were quite satisfied with our decision to do so. The hotel is located in the Old Quarter but on the western edge. It is about a 15 minute walk along Hang Bo & Hang Bac before you are in the heart of the Old Quarter. This means the hotel is in a much quieter area but getting to and from the middle of the Old Quarter offers an opportunity to see the locals in daily action.

Our room was clean and the beds and pillow quite comfy. Room had AC, complimentary water, minibar, amenities etc as is typical with most rooms.

Shower and bathroom were separated and behind a frosted glass wall. Discretionary curtain was in both the shower room and bathroom giving you the ability to hide your silouhette if that is important to you.

The resturant is quiet and offers a wide variety of Western and Asian cuisine though the breakfast leans more toward the Asian palate (not a big deal for us but if eggs are important you may not get them for breakfast).

The staff were great, always smiling and answered any questions we had. We didn't have many interactions with them but those that we did we certainly couldn't complain.

We paid just under $50 CAN for the room and feel it was good value for money!

I booked a room here for one month via email. Tracy answered all my questions and was very helpful with advice before I even arrived. The room was at the back of the building and despite not having a window to the outside was spotlessly clean and had a hot shower, cable television, minibar, air-con/heating and a very comfortable bed with crisp white linen. The staff at Rising Dragon cannot do enough to make you feel welcome, they are professional, friendly, honest and knowledgeable. Breakfast is the great with lots of choice off the cooked menu and lashings of fresh fruit. There is nothing they could not do to help me. The location is right in the heart of the Old Quarter and perfect for a short or long stay in Ha Noi. Tracy and her team have made a lasting impression on me and have, unfortunately for all other hotels in Viet Nam set a very high bench mark!

Rising Dragon Hotel was located smack in the middle of the Old Quarter. From here, you can practically explore the whole area by foot. The hotel is pretty hard to spot because it's tucked in a small corner along the row of buildings and I walked past it a few times while looking for the entrance. However, this small inconvenience is also a plus point for the hotel. The fact that it's tucked in a small corner means that there's less noise in the hotel and rooms.

The service in this hotel was excellent. The staff will tell you where to go, what to do and how to travel safe. On my last day, I took the train from Hanoi to Da Nang and the staff sent us to the train station and even showed us our beds on the train car. Service like this is definitely hard to come by. The best part of it all was how they were able to provide such excellent service without coming off as hotel receptionist but rather, they seemed more like hosts, welcoming you into their home.

The rooms were basic and there wasn't any lift. But then again, even though there wasn't any elevators, the staff would be more than happy to help you bring your luggage up. The air conditioning in the room was really good and the showers were great. Mattresses were a little hard but manageable. The rooms were pretty decent. After all, you wouldn't want to spend too much time in the hotel when you should be spending time walking around and exploring.

The best part of my stay has to be the service. It's the best I've had so far. Need more be said?

The Rising Dragon is an old hotel somewhat showing its age but staffed by the kindest and most competent people you could wish for. They helped us sort problems from medical to phones, get to see the things we wanted to see, organised trips, organised plane tickets and hotel at our next destination and generally looked after us incredibly well. They're good fun too...the hotel itself is perfectly comfortable and in a great location in the old quarter of lovely Hanoi. Go there!

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook the reception/breakfast area so the day starts early. And there's no lift.

We contacted Rising Dragon directly through their website and received great customer service right from the get go. We dealt with Tracy who arranged our tours (Halong Bay and Sapa trekking) and accommodation. She was incredibly helpful, suggesting itineraries for us and providing different options which we could select from to fit our budget. The hotel itself is right in amongst the hustle and bustle of the old quarter with loads of bars and restaurants close by. Our room was one of the nicest we've stayed in during our time in Vietnam and the staff were very accommodating - making recommendations for places to eat etc between our tours they provided breakfast and let us use spare rooms to catch up on sleep and to shower, all free of charge. Highly recommend this hotel.

Tip: we met a girl who had been scammed by the dodgy taxi drivers. They took her to a fake rising dragon hotel where she ended up having to pay significantly more for a crappy hotel. To avoid this from happening I would pre arrange a pick up from rising dragon directly. they were great at ararranging these pick ups for us and always had someone waiting for us at the airport/train station.

We went to Halong Bay and would recommend spending 2 nights there as it takes 4 hours to drive from Hanoi , so if you do the 1 night option you essentially only spend 12 hours on the boat and sleep for most of that time. We went with a company called Royal Heritage, booked through the hotel, food was amazing but would not decommdnd this tour provider. Expensive for what you get, we met some other travellers who went with a company called Castaways which sounded really good.

hope that helps!

We stayed for 2 days. We lost one file of travel documents while on our way to hotel from airport. Thanks to the very concerned and efficient staff, they tracked down the taxi and got our file back to us. We really appreciate their sincerity and honesty!

Early November I made arrangements to stay in this hotel the day I left Hue for Hanoi on a night bus. Recommended in the Lonely Planet the fast and friendly reaction of Tracy Tran at sales made it easy to book. As I realised that my time for traveling was running out I was very pleased with the help she gave me making arrangements for a Halong Cruise and Sapa Trekking!
The hotel is simple and 'older' but clean and very convenient in the Hanoi Old Quarter!
With the friendly staff accommodating for early arrivals and evening departures by train a perfect place to be in downtown Hanoi! Although I was there 'only' 3 nights the memory is for much longer.

Room Tip: I was on the fourth floor (no elevator) with a spacious room at the front of the building.
