We chose this hotel partly because of its top ranking on Trip Advisor. While the hotel was good, it was not great. Considering that it was the most expensive hotel on our two-week trip to Vietnam (where we paid from $30USD - $40USD/night), I am not sure why it ranks so highly.
Like many Vietnamese hotels in this price range, there is not much wrong with the Rising Dragon. The room was clean, the breakfast was good, and the staff was pleasant. But there was nothing that made this hotel stand out (especially when compared to the Orchid Hotel in Hue, or even the Thien Thanh in Hoi An.) We booked a trip to Halong Bay through the hotel but they told us when we left that they did not have rooms for us on our return date. They promised to set up lodging in one of their six sister hotels for us, which they did (but only after we returned there to pick up our bags.) Our new hotel was definitely more quirky (and $10 cheaper) and it, too, like most hotels in the Old Quarter of Hanoi had no elevator.
Overall, I'd say Rising Dragon is probably like a lot of other hotels in the Old Quarter. Don't worry if this one isn't available - the others are likely just as good.More
