“Lake view and handy for Hoan Kiem and surrounds”
Reviewed July 8, 2011

Typically good service and helpful family hotel. Location on Hang Hanh is very good, but can be noisy. Construction in the street and area can be noisy at night, but that is the case anywhere in Hanoi. Breakfast area is standard but with nice lake view.

We arrived at this hotel around 6am without a booking. That was no problem to the manager Manh who checked us in and the porter Binh who showed us to a room. We initially booked for one night but on experiencing the cleanliness of the hotel and friendliness of the staff, extended to four nights. I should also compliment the hotel receptionist who greeted us at breakfast each morning and helped with general tour information during our stay. The staff arranged for local transport and directed us to nearby restaurants that demonstrated not only a good knowledge of the district but also a level of care for the guests.

Morning Star Hotel is in a great location. The current listing for it on Google Maps is wrong however so don't get a taxi to that address (I did and had to walk here in the rain) - use the tripadvisor map!

There is so much around here to eat and shop for! Great tailor/silk and great food too. Little Hanoi just around the corner is a must visit. The staff are very friendly and funny when you get them talking.

It's not the cheapest hotel around, but im not complaining after what i pay in western big brand hotels.

This hotel was not bad apart from the constant drilling from a renovation gong on next door. It was difficult to sleep on one night due to very boisterous British back-packers who gave staff dreadful abuse. Luckily, the Vietnamese are a peaceful race and did not rise to the intense provocation.

Lovely hotel with good appointed rooms. Some better than others. Breakfast are poor and you are better advised to eat around the corner in many good little cafes. At present there is building work going on next door, which starts at 6.30 am and finishes at 7.00pm. When this is finished, a new building being built, about 6 - 8 more months then the hotel will be quieter. The balconies should be lake view but you have to look past other buildings to see the lake, and only the top floor balcony can see the lake without much obstruction. Good position and reasonably quiet.

The room that we'd booked at the Morning Star Hotel in Hanoi was attractive and had a balcony with a view of the lake. Shortly after arriving, we thought we'd try to catch up on sleep after an-all night flight from Australia, including stop-over in KL. Imagine our shock to be woken up around 4.00pm to the sound of drilling & find out that this hotel was up-dating their rooms. After speaking to the manager, we were lead to believe that this would conclude at dark. We had a foreboding of worse to come as we heard scrapping immediately outside our room and saw a group of people laying form work for what looked like an upward extension. After dinner, we returned to the hotel and shortly around 10.00pm a concrete truck arrived. A concrete pour started soon after concluding around 6.00am. Our room shuddered to the vibrations of the machinery. At breakfast, there was no apology or offer to re-imburse us for our lack of sleep. Feeling very tired we decided that we would not seek a new hotel as we'd already arranged tours for the day. We concluded that it would take a couple of days for the concrete to set and we would be on our way before the next phase of the building program began. As a positive, the Morning Star does have a lovely breakfast room & serves a nice omelette. If you want to see the lovely view from this hotel, be quick before it is obliterated by the building going on next door.
