My wife and I spent two nights at the Flower Hotel, Hanoi, having chosen it based entirely on the favorable reviews in tripadvisor.com. The room was quite spacious for a small hotel, although storage space was rather limited; there is space to hang your clothes but no shelves at all. With wooden floors, a huge bed, and large windows the room was bright and cheery , and the attached bathroom had all the usual amenities. Breakfast at the 14th floor restaurant was enjoyable with a great view over the city including the Red River. Top of the list however was the superb service rendered by the reception and restaurant staff. Gracious, friendly, charming-- I could go on and on !! The hotel is about a 20 minute walk to the Old Quarter, so it is advisable to take a taxi and save your energy for a long ramble through the old Quarter. Don't take metered taxis, they are a rip-off; instead, negotiate a flat fare-- anywhere between Dong 30,000-50,000 depending on the time of day and your bargaining skills. As a pedestrian, be really careful even at light-controlled crossings, the two-wheelers bear down on you en masse from all directions.

We stayed there two nights. We found this accommodation to be very disappointing. This is an over priced mini two-star hotel. It was by far the most expensive one we stayed at in Hanoi and by far the least enjoyable. It is far too different from what it advertised in some internet websites. The room we stayed was small and dark without a proper window. The furniture is outdated. The bathroom was extremely small. The exhaust fan was exceptionally noisy. There was no hot water available due to a plumbing problem, which was eventually fixed by the evening of our second day. And the noise between the motorbikes from the street in the morning and the other guests late at night was sleep-depriving. We felt pretty worse by then. Consider the price we paid, this hotel is too much overpriced. The hotel should make a price to reflect its value of service and accommodation it offer. Needless to say, we would not stay there again nor recommend it.

The Flower hotel offers good value for your money, and very friendly and helpful staff. A bit away from the really busy town centre, but walking the streets is great fun - at least for us first timers in Hanoi. Nothing to complain about, even the breakfast was great (OK at least) with a chef standing by to fry or scramble your eggs, or make you an omelette.

Stayed here for three nights in October as part of a three month trip around the world with my husband.

Firstly, the hotel is EXCELLENT value for money. We had a large room on one of the higher floors with a lovely view over Hanoi. The location is fine. It is in quite a residential area and firstly seems like there is not a lot around but only a couple of streets away are restaurants and bakeries and it is only a 20 minute walk to the heart of the old town or a very cheap 5 minute taxi journey.

Breakfast was OK, a fair enough selection but nothing to write home about, but the restaurant, on the top floor was nice because of the views. Staff are extremely friendly, to the point of being over nice!! e Fruit provided free of charge in the room was very welcome and the free WIFI in the room was also great (we paid exorbitant prices for this in other hotels).

We would have been 100% happy with this hotel was it not for one incident. We left in some clothes to be laundered and dry cleaned and were extremely dissatisfied with the service. Some items were completely ruined to the extent that they were unwearable. We are really upset about it and complained at reception and to be fair they took it extremely seriously, calling in the manager of both the hotel and the launderette the clothes were sent out to. They were very apologetic and offered to replace the items but as they would probably not be able to buy them in Hanoi, we suggested they simply allow no charge for the laundry and pay for our taxi to the airport, to which they agreed and they also facilitated a late check out for us. The hotel manager even gave us his card to contact him if we were in Hanoi again.

This hotel is not luxurious but is excellent value for money.....just don't use the laundry service!!

Great, clean, new hotel. I think it doesn't get the multi-star reviews some of the others in Hanoi get because it's mostly a "tour group" hotel, and is *between* West Lake and Hoan Kiem instead of being more centrally located.

But don't let that stop you. It's a very pleasant 25 minute walk through the old quarter to get to town (=Hoan Kiem). A taxi ride takes less than 5 minutes and costs a couple USD.

I'm very, very picky about hotels and would not think twice about staying here again. This is our fourth trip to Hanoi -- so I know of which I speak.

Rates in Dec. 2007 were $30 - $40 and this includes breakfast.
